I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16" (with Intel chip, 32GB Ram, and Radeon 5500M Graphics Card) and I was thinking about upgrading to an M1 MacBook Pro. I see some pretty good deals out there and I wanted some opinions if I should upgrade now ahead of the M3 Chip release this fall or early next year. My original goal was to wait for the OLED MacBook Pro but seeing the M1 chip render videos in a couple minutes instead of an hour really has me itching to jump on the M1. Any advice from anyone that has previously had an Intel chip and gotten an M1 would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'd say hold out if you can. The M1 series is phenomenal and the pricing on them right now is even better on sites like B&H. I don't think you would have any regrets getting the M1 series, but I would imagine the pricing would trickle down to the M2 series when the higher end M3 are released.

I'm not sure what we're expecting outside of a bump in processing power with the M3, but you never know. Might want to go that route if it offers something significant.

The only reason I'd say to strongly consider the M2 generally speaking is HDMI 2.1 considering video work is a priority for you. Like I said, don't think you would be disappointed with an M1 series in any way. Hope that helps!

That's exactly what I'm looking at. The savings are crazy right now on B&H!

Update: Picked up an M1 MacBook Pro 16" from B&H with a $1,600 discount. I couldn't pass that deal up. I'll just wait for the OLED MBP in 2026 or whatever. Super happy with it though.
