I have been struggling with some of the new features too, so you might want to watch the video on MR that goes over those, I just did today. Not sure still that I will change my mind but at least it gives you a better feeling for what's coming.

Thanks for that link! Why do so many tech videos sound speeded up? Are the presenters trying to cram more in a short period of time? Is it because they're not interacting with a real person? Or, is it because they’re reading?

Academics and students who deliver talks by reading their papers aloud often go too fast.

Many of these techies sound amped up and talk too quickly — does that garner them more likes?

I tried changing the playback speed to .75, but that’s too slow. Likely, .85 or .9 would work. Just wish that the presenters would speak at a normal rate and not rush through their notes!

A question for those of you who have been testing WatchOS 10.

I'm used to tapping on the Activity complication (the 3 rings) and having it jump directly to the part of the long scrolling screen to show the section with steps by hour. In one quick tap, I get the information I want.

As I watched the MR video, it seemed that it would now require many taps or lots of scrolling to get there. Or, does it remember the last viewed part of the scroll as it did in OS 8?

By the way, that MR video on Watch OS 10 became more listenable as it went on. The presentation became a bit more conversational — or, I got used to the fast talking! 😁

can't comment much as I rarely watch YouTube videos, can't stand these ...
and as for watchOS 10, I'll be an early adapter next Monday as I have ordered the Ultra2, so will try to get used to it prior to arrival

My watch charges to 80% and not more overnight under the new optimized charging algorithm. So far it hasn't been an issue (ended the day on 20% yesterday), but how can the software possibly know how I'm going to use it in the next 24 hours?! Even I don't know, and sometimes I'd be happier with the old 80% first, then 100% charge at the start of the day, rather than stopping completely at 80% as it does now.

I'm reluctant to switch optimized charging off, but one day this is going to be an issue for me during the day.

Bigger gripe - the weather and alarm complications are blank every morning. I have to manually remove and re-add them to make them work. This is like the old days of early Watch OS'.

And the new weather app is taking some getting used to. It seems harder to find out how hot it will be during the day. I'm tending to look at my iPhone more now instead.

Finally, there is no Battery control in the iOS Watch app - it's only on the Watch itself, which is strange.

One more (edited): The 'redacting' of data on the face when the watch is locked makes it look like some kind of CIA document that's been released to the public, with half the information hidden. Is today's date and temperature really sensitive information? And in the alarm complication, it shows 'no alarms' - which is not true and very misleading.

I'll stick with this release but it's not very good.

I turned off optimization and charge to 100%.

Don't know why Apple limits charge capacity to 80% - silly IMO.

Like asking an ICE owner to fill up with 80% fuel or an EV owner to charge to 80%.

I believe in charging to 100% every single time I charge my:
  • EV
  • PHEV
  • AW
  • MBP M1
  • 14+
  • 14PM
  • iPad Pro
  • MBA M2

I don't find widgets very useful. I'd much rather be able to swipe right and left to change faces so I can see the info I want to see in my complications. I don't understand why that's not allowed in this version because nothing else is using those gestures. Apple could make it an option for those who find their watch faces changing accidentally too often. But I was not among those and I hate this change.

I did charge my Ultra 2 last night, it was at 100% this morning.
I do like you, charge everything to 100%, use optimized charging on all my Apple devices, except, if I were to charge my EV to 100% I would not have any regen for the first 4 or 5 miles or so and thus using the brakes, so that gets charged to about 90% for that reason.

I’m in agreement with you, however, Apple has a history of making UI changes for change sake, not for improving the UI.
I am struggling with widgets myself, don’t really know what they’re useful for, but sure hope Apple has some more plans for this in upcoming releases (but I’m not holding my breath)

Go tell them what you think. Watch OS 10 is available in feedback now.

Would like to switch watch faces without the push and hold and dock is a bit harder to get to.

So far, whenever bugs have come up in any release of macOS, iOS, Watch OS, TV OS, hell even video games on other platforms, I've never experienced them. I'd just do my updates knowing it's fixing all kinds of bugs that I've never seen.

With WatchOS 10 I swear I've experienced all of them. Before I got my series 9, my series 4 watch battery would plunge quickly upon taking it off the charger. My weather complication shows --. One that I haven't seen mentioned, but when I raise my wrist and look at my watch, one of the complications sometimes will flicker.

As far as usability goes, I don't mind the button bringing up the control panel (I didn't use whatever the button did before, I couldn't even tell you what that is) but I do still swipe up to get to the control panel and then frustratingly hit the button when I realize it's changed. So yeah, that button is fine for bringing that up, but it annoys me that they've changed it. Again. I swear every 2 releases they change what all the buttons do (and they won't get off my lawn!)

Probably won't use widgets. Honestly, if it isn't on my watch face or control panel, I usually don't use it. With the exception of one app (WaterMinder, which I get to from tapping on a complication) I probably don't open any other apps on the watch.

EDIT: I should point out though, I don't remember the complication flickering happening with my series 4, so that might be a series 9 issue.

how do you switch back to os9 ?... thats what I think of it. not one single improvement I can see. It's like going from a faucet with a single hot/cold lever, to having to operate two. At least give the users the ability to define what the button actions are going to do if they are going to change them.

It’s a backwards step and made things more difficult rather than better.

I used the feedback to tell them this.

Aside from the apparent battery drainage, I don't like anything "new" that I've bumped into so far. I don't like how to get to control center. I don't like how the icons are in a long strip. I don't like how sleep mode behaves now.

control panel to the button doesn't bother me as much as it does most other people. I would have preferred they kept where it was and moved widgets to a swipe left (like the phone/ipad).

I also like widgets as a way to "fit" complications that didn't make the watch face "cut" to another quick screen. (weather for instance in may case)

I agree with the OP. It seems they went looking for solutions where problems didn't exist. I guess the widgets come in handier for those not using watch faces with a lot of complications. It sucks to have to relearn different procedures for features that have been around a long time. I can't say the OS seems any snappier to me and I personally haven't seen too many apps that have been redesigned for the better (as opposed to just different).
That said, I use the watch for 4 main things:
  • Time/date & timers
  • Notifications - especially on cellular if I am elsewhere in the house or office from my phone.
  • Apple Pay & barcodes for events and flights.
  • Fitness tracking for walks, etc.

The UI changes are what they are. Some will hate them and some will love them. I’m not fond of the additional tapping and swiping needed to navigate around. Seems like a step back. Also not a fan of the transparency. Makes things harder to see. Nor the full screen color apps that emphasize the bezel.

The bugs and battery drain are the worst though.

I like most of it, apart from the extra steps needed to change watch face now.
I think apple wants to force us to put the watch faces on individual focus modes. And you can set them to activate automatically based on location, time or whatnot.
