After being in the iPhone eco system for over a decade I felt I wanted a change and to see how far the other side have come. Through work I managed to have an S25 Ultra and OnePlus 13 on loan, both are fantastic devices but I started to see alot of noise on the Find N5 and it captured my interest. I'm in the UK so imported the global version from Hong Kong and they use the same plug system as us so it was nice to have an 80w UK plug in the box.
I absolutely love this phone, it's about the same thickness and weight as the 16 Pro Max I had but opens to an 8.2" screen, more screen real estate than an iPad Mini. The front screen feels like a normal phone so you don't have any compromises using it day to day.
The Gruber article that just dropped about something being rotten in Apple prompted me to write this as I have been thinking recently that the iPhone has got quite stale, it's still a great phone but it's starting to lack flagship features that the competition have.
Things I have really appreciated on the N5...
The 8 Elite chip is the first time in many years that the main SoC can now compete with Apple and it shows in the day to day usage, everything is lightning fast. The multi core and GPU are now faster than the A18 Pro and single core is only 15% slower. This is a game changer for flagship Android phones.
80w charging is insane and removes any charging anxiety, it can charge from 0 to 100% in around 45 mins, top ups of 15 mins are meaningful.
5600 mah battery is also fantastic and powers this device all day with no issues, gone are the day that Android is poor for battery, this is better than my 16 Pro Max.
The form factor is solid and feels extremely premium, in my pocket I forget it's a foldable.
Camera is good but not the best but that's the price you currently pay for a device this thin.
Both screens are top quality and 120Hz OLED, I love consuming content so reading and watching video are fantastic.
Almost a silly one but I like how Oppo have made their gallery app bi-directional with Google Photos, I was already backing up all my iPhone photos with Google so they immediately appeared in the Gallery app on this phone. If I take a photo on my iPad it appears on the phone still, I really like this.
I have an M4 Pro Mac Mini and love it so I was pleasantly surprised to see Oppo have a native Mac app so you can easily move files between your phone and Mac. You can also control you Mac remotely from anywhere in the world that really works. You even get a track pad on screen with all the Mac gestures.
I am only 10 days but so far have zero regrets, my Airpods Max also work really well with the phone and I am still using Apple Music on Android with them.
This phone really feels like a generational leap in technology but unfortunately is not available outside of Asia which is a pity.
