I might get laughed at considering how successful apple are, but in many ways they massively underdeliver in my opinion - foldables being a good example.

They have almost endless amounts of money but are so slow getting to market not just in hardware but software too. I believe their success has led to complacency to some degree and it’s starting to show now more than ever…

I think it just simply comes down to the fact that Apple is a very different company than most of these others.
Samsung does pretty much everything, and one of the biggest part of their business is displays. They have been messing with folding displays for decades, and the company is known for pretty much doing public experiments.
But these experiments don’t always sell in huge numbers, so they don’t have to worry about mass producing them like Apple does.

Meanwhile, in comparison, Apple will probably sell as many folding phones in the first weekend as Samsung does in an entire year, so instantly the second apple does it it goes from something niche to something that millions of people will have within hours of its release.
apparently, last year Samsung sold around 4.9 million Foldables. Apple will probably sell twice that and it’s first week.

Their folding phone, apparently launching next year, as described is close to creaseless, around 4.5MM thin when unfolded and won’t rely on a plastic screen layer to protect it.

It is the exact same situation that we saw with OLED on the iPad, yes, technically tablets as far back as 2010 had OLEDs, but they certainly weren’t sold in the quantity and were absolutely not the same quality as Apple’s tandem OLED displays.
even almost a year later, the iPad competitors with OLED displays are still advertising half the nits, and I still see the iPad Pro display held up as the best tablet display on the market right now.
I expect, and I hope, their trajectory with foldable’s is the same.
I know there has been a lot of controversy lately about software delays, but Apple has been absolutely killing it when it comes to hardware so a foldable iPhone still very much has the potential to be the highest quality and most thought out foldable of them all.

Wait a min... are you admitting that Samsung is more innovative than Apple? Lol.

I disagree, I think foldables will remain niche even when Apple enters the market. The cost will be out of reach for most and we don't know the specs. Most foldables tend to cut corners on the camera department, if the trend shows that Apple won't have a flagship camera on it's foldable... then that will discourage folks from buying it.

“innovative” has become a useless term, so no.
Samsung is not just a consumer electronics company, they are also a supplier of components.
Apple is not, even their custom parts are only supplied to… Themselves, and usually through a third-party like TSMC or (from the original iPhone through the iPhone 6S) Samsung.
When Apple does make a foldable phone, it will most likely be Samsung who provides the displays, and it’s likely they will make more money off of that partnership with Apple then they will their own Foldables.
They currently supply the majority of iPhone and iPad panels along with LG.
While they do have products that compete, the truth is that Apple and Samsung need each other.

If it was compatible with all of the TMO 5g bands I'd pull the trigger and sell off the 9 PF and ZF6.
That is what keeps me from getting the Vivo x200 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. I wish those phones were available through Verizon so I know the phone is compatible with their network.

Wow I could have written this myself. I, too, switched just last week from the iPhone (15 Pro Max) to the Oppo Find N5. I've had every flagship iPhone since the very first and many of the watches. I skipped the 16 Pro Max because, for the first time, the spec bump felt too small to matter. I agree with all of your points and actually wrote a similar review/feedback on Reddit here. I've found the camera to be better than the reviews say it is, though I will give the W to the iPhone for now in that department. I still do think there are software related things that can be done to improve it, but I'm very happy with it since I don't do pro mobile photography. My main issue from the beginning was that everyone I know uses iMessages (I'm in the US) and even with RCS, me switching to Android threatened to destroy a lot of group messages and everyone threw a hissy fit over turning green. I was able to figure out a solution that I won't go into here for that. So all is good now!
Seriously childish attitudes over a simple damn colour in a message!

Like Eddie Griphin said in his stand up comedy:

They all complaining about who's got the official message, but nobody considered did they get the message?!

As long as your message gets through, and theirs who cares what damn colour's it's in. I used to think only youth had this issue.

Same was thought of Apple & Qualcomm needing each other. Qualcomm is doing just fine without Apple buying their modems and as of 3mths ago only by specific special cases will an employee get approval to buy a Mac.

Samsung supplies many OLED displays, controllers, storage (UFS3/4/4 1) to various competitors and still has patents in foldable phones from hinge to UTG on the display still being licensed. They'll do just fine or moreso without Apple.

Samsung also makes freight oil tanker boats trucks etc as well. They are a conglo.erate like no other in the world!

Even though foldable phones may not be for everyone, I do think the technology is improving. Remember the first foldable phone which came from Samsung? That had been plagued with a lot of issues such as durability problems and debris concerns. Now look at where we are. Almost everything has been ironed out. Of course, not everything is perfect. The screen crease is still there although imperceptible most of the time, the price is still too high and software optimisation could be better. However, I'm sure all these things can be solved in a few years.

As for the Oppo Find N5, it is interesting to hear about your experience. The hardware of the device is remarkable. I can resonate with the points you've made. It’s impressive how the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip performs. The gaming performance is particularly stunning. As for the 80W charging, it's wonderful to see. Fast charging is nice. I don't think we need insane charging speeds from chargers such as the ones from Realme and Redmi but around this range is sufficient. The 5600 mAh battery is another great addition. It's really good to see this kind of battery life. Although I don't understand why companies are jumping on the craze for thinness, I think it makes more sense for foldable phones since weight and thickness are more of a concern and what Oppo have done here is truly incredible. When it comes to the cameras, you are obviously not going to get flagship quality like you would from a traditional smartphone which is a trade-off but the fact that the rest of the device shines in terms of performance, battery and charging makes up for it in my opinion. Those screens are also excellent. The Mac functionality Oppo implemented is delightful.

My take on this is that Oppo have done a fantastic job with this foldable phone. They have taken notes from Honor's playbook and produced something wonderful. It is a shame that Oppo isn't selling it in Europe though. I would say continue enjoying your Find N5!

Yeah what is the solution to not break group chats when you switch from iMessage to RCS?
What am I missing here? My wife and kid, and my parents, are all on iPhone, but I am on Android and I haven't experienced "broken group chats" for ages without needing to do anything special. Back in the Note8 days I think photos didn't come over as clearly but the group chat never got broken up (which I realized used to occur prior to 2018). I have alternated between Android/iPhone for over 10 years, pre- and post-RCS, and simply haven't experienced any issues participating in group chats for a very long while now, and no one else in my circle of friends/family raises an issue that I'm "breaking the group chat". Everything just works.

I have had mine for over 2 months now and its still my favourite phone by far. I have no downsides with it, what an achievement by OPPO.

Are you able to enable the notification badge on app icons for anything but some default apps and instagram and WhatsApp? For some reason I don’t have that option for Apps like Outlook and I use the global version. One of the software things that annoy me.
