My newmodeus appears a little different to yours! Wonder if you got one from a bad bunch?

I get my mac next wk, ist thing I will do after setup is crack it open install RAM and swap hdd for owc 120gb ssd and stock hdd in optibay

I'll report back if it worked or not

Maybe I did, I hope yours works better. Mine was the wrong one, it was the 12.xMM anyway, did you order the 9.5mm?

I got the optibay from Buy.com today, quick shipping, I didn't expect it so soon. While its not perfect, its much better than the newmodeus optibay and its $30 cheaper. It is a very, very tight fit. You really need to squeeze it behind the black plastic piece around the DVD/CD slot, but when it is in its not going anywhere:). Also you need to cut a little bit of plastic away so the WiFi/Bluetooth(I think that is what it is) will fit back in over the optibay. It is still only held in with one screw, and the HDD is still not screwed into the optibay, but it does fit in the optibay much better and has some plastic tabs that hold it OK. I put a piece of foam between the HDD and the rear of the optibay so it can't slide backwards from the SATA connectors. Here are some pics of the difference.

That this one?

How has it been working since you've had a day or so to play with it now? Would you recommend it? (I like the price...over the $75 OWC Data Doubler).

I'm still waiting for the OP to get back to us with his thoughts on his purchase! ;)

Its working just fine so far, it is actually this one. I don't see what the difference is between the two, except the title, they both work for SATA, and for 13, 15, and 17" MBP's.

yes i ordered the 9.5mm one:
OBHD9 SATA-SATA

my new MBP 17" CTO high res glossy, 8gb ram arrived today
8 days early to... :D :D :D :D

anyway, i played around a bit, and immediately opened her up!
Installed used owc 120gb from my win xp pc

installed newmodeus optibay with stock 500gb 7200rpm

placed superdrive in a chep $15 enclosure from ebay

WOW

the thing boots up in 7-9s
no sleep issues

apps load in 1 sec; 270mb/s read; 255mbs/s write

the newmodeus caddy was superb - line up with hdd very easily, came with 8 screws to secure HDD to caddy; tho' i only used x4 on the base of caddy

good, tight fit, and x1 screw to fix the mounting bracket (taken from superdrive) onto the MBP

there was small 2-4mm space of btwn the edge of the MBP and the caddy, too small to places anything, in - and once all the screws were placed and sata connectors re-attached - the caddy actually fitted very snugly

only think left to do know is whether i should enable the trim hack!
thkink i will skip as im lovin the speed, and heard by others that the trim hack had issues with owc drives

Anyway, back to topic: i would be weary with some of the ebay hdd caddies, as some only support sata1.5 and hence negotiate sata 1.5 as reported by others in previous threads.. seller smk312, and a few others from HK/china confirmed that the chinese 2nd hdd cadies for MBP do not all support sata3! Was very confused with all this, and since i plan of havving dual ssd in the future, i thought i'd go for the newmodeus

So just to clarify, did that Newmodeus model negotiate at 3Gb/s?
