I just purchased an optibay from ifixit and a samsung spinpoint M9T 2tb hard drive

I put the drive in the optibay and it keeps hanging after 2-5 minutes after boot. I have looked online and found some suggested solutions such as clearing the kext cache that didn't work. I have rotated the drives and that doesn't work either. The samsung shows up in the system profiler as a 6/gb connection after boot but after use it hangs and locks up.

I am using the CHUD tools to prevent the hard drive from sleeping but that doesn't seem to help either after I try to move data over to it.

    Any suggestions?

What are your computer and OS specs? Are you using the Optibay for extra storage or is that your primary OS drive?

    Thanks for the response -

I am using a early 2011 macbook pro 13" with Mavricks as the OS

The drive is primarily a storage unit no operating system - I did test to see if it would work as an OS boot drive no dice with it

    Edit:
I also tried using cocktail to help with the sleep issue and that didn't work either - as soon as I tried to put any type of data on the drive it locks up

Edit 2: tried to capture the console information below:

2011 MBP's have had issues with SATA III drives in the optibay. Not so much the 13" though. I see you tried it in the main bay also. That kind of rules out a bad cable also. I guess I would try running repair disk on it and/or re-formatting(Mac OS Extended journaled). Maybe even a re-install of OSX. Good luck!

In that thread "with lots of success" I couldn't find a single clear success story. I tried this and am having the same problem as you -- drive appears, but disconnects when trying to copy data across. Really, really disappointed!
