MP 1,1-5,1 optical drive from 4,1 or 5,1 work with 3,1?

I see a few of these used around for cheap.

Hitachi Optical Drive 678-0579 GH41N Apple P/N 661-4809 for Mac Pro 4,1​

will they work with a MP3,1? The OEM OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A are for *****.
And I have not found a way to update the firmware, if that would even make a difference

MP3,1 use PATA DVDs, while MP4,1 and MP5,1 use SATA.

You can use one the two additional SATA connections of the MP3,1 logic board to connect a SATA cable and a MOLEX 4-pin to SATA 6-pin adapter for the power. Takes some time to organize everything but it's doable.
