My iBook G4 finally came in the mail. It came with the original box, the reinstall DVDs, iLife 04, and Mac OS X Tiger Retail. The iBook ended up being a 1.07 GHz model, but the the hard drive in upgraded to 150GB! So, I don't feel too bad spending $45 on it. The optical drive has some issues. The disc won't come out of the drive. It is ejecting, but it gets stuck and goes back in. Is there some way to fix the drive, so it aligns again. This is a hardware issue, I am sure of it.

Thanks Everyone!

You'll have to remove and rebuild the optical drive or replace it.

Thanks for chiming in Intell! I figure I will just replace it. Will this work. Mine is a 12 inch model. Also, do you have any tips on replacing it. Thanks!

That should work. Just make sure you test it before fully closing up the machine. Those aren't the most fun things to remove.

Can you make a guide on rebuilding PowerBook G4 and iBook G4 optical drives? I have a PowerBook that ate my Tiger disk and I want to make the drive usable again.

System Profiler shows it in two places. In the Disc burning (if supported) and in the ATA section. Disk Utility also shows the drive model.

Doesn't show in either but it gets power as the drive is spinning the disk for 5 minutes after boot then spins down.

A drive rebuild isn't likely to fix that. That is a problem with the controller, cable, or drive electronics.
