The last two mornings I’ve picked my iPhone up off the MagSafe charger and it’s been at 80%. Alarm set at the same time as normal so seems that optimised charging has failed to complete. It’s a 13 pro max so battery life is great and not a big deal but has anyone else noticed similar? Have rebooted and switched optimised charging off for 24 hours to see if it can fix itself

How much time have you given IOS to ‘learn’ your schedule?

I’m sure I’ve read it can take up to a couple of weeks. At least a week.

I wouldn’t waste any more time with it. It obviously isn’t reliable and whether or not it actually will save you money years from now by putting off buying a new battery because it slowed down degradation is dubious at best.
I think it’s more of a gimmick than an actually useful feature.

I’ve had my phone since release day and optimised charging has been working fine for weeks. Just not worked for the last two days. I’ve used optimised charging on my previous iPhones too ever since apple introduced it and actually never had it fail before. So in general I would say it’s incredibly reliable. just this time something has gone wrong

I wonder if an IOS update did something to a specific App where it now works more in the background & has ‘told’ IOS to learn your schedule again?

Have you noticed your battery being used more than when you first got the phone?

Either way, I wouldn’t give up on it. Optimisation is a smart feature that should help your battery in the long run, especially if you‘re not using ultra fast chargers.

Wait another couple of weeks & see if it starts again. & don’t toggle it on/off as this may reset it to start its 2 week ‘learning’ mode again.

It was always hit or miss for me. It would work perfectly for months then would just stop working. Now I turn it off and use a smart plug with automations to start charging at 40% and turn off at 85%. Works amazingly well

My experience of when optimised charging is ‘learning’ is it just charges straight to 100%, I’ve never had it stop at 80% before. Anyway the thread was aimed at seeing if this was a common issue with the latest iOS version which it seems not to be so I will just see how it goes. With the awesome battery life of the 13 pro max is not really a big deal anyway!

This happened to me on Thursday and Friday of the past week. I have had my 13 Pro since release day and optimised charging always worked fine once it learned my routine then for two days running the phone was definitely connected to the Magsafe charger as you can see from my photo. I can't help wondering its it's related to the recent firmware update for the Magsafe? Last night it charged to 100% with optimised charging working as usual.
