Hi all,

I have 10.2.8 running on a partition on a msata that I installed in my 233mhz PDQ. I installed 10.2 by placing the drive in a FireWire enclosure and used my Pismo to install. Now the drive is back in the PDQ. Considering this isn't a fast processor, I was wondering if there are any scripts I can run to optimism the OS. Is there anything else I can do to make 10.2 run smoother on my PDQ?

Thank you!

@Dronecatcher Thanks! I couldn't remember the name of the apps.

Since you are very knowledgable, I was wondering if there is a way to bring better FireWire compatibility to 10.2.

I have a FW/USB card that I bought to use with my PDQ and hopefully a future Lombard. The card works fine in 10.4 and 10.5. I have not been able to get it to work in OS 9.2.2 (though I think I am going to keep playing with extensions) and 10.2.

I am not a hacker by any means, but is there a way to bring 10.4/10.5 FW drivers over to OS 10.2? Or maybe there is a third party program that improves FW compatibility. I have been searching on Google with no luck so far.

What chipset is your FireWire card using? Plug it in while running 10.4 or 10.5, fire up System Profiler and then look under either the Cardbus (if there is one, can't remember) or PCI Cards section. The vendor and device ID allow identifying the chipset and checking if drivers for 10.2 exist.
Simply copying over the FireWire kexts from 10.4 or 10.5 is unlikely to work because they may well depend on other kexts or kernel functions not present in 10.2, and the more you simply copy over, the exponentially higher the chance of something blowing up. :)

I'll check now.

Thanks, I used the info to find some old discussion posts on Apple. It looks like it might work in 10.3. I can put 10.3 on my PDQ using XPostFacto, but I don't know if that is a good idea considering it is such a low spec machine to begin with. I am looking for RAM that will work with this computer. Maybe that would make 10.3 tolerable. I only wanted to put OS X on here to try and get this PC Card to work.

It currently has 160mb
That’s cutting it close for any version of OS X. You need two low-density 256 MB modules to max it out to 512 MB.
I believe the much more common high-density modules are recognised at half their capacity so two 256 MB modules “should” at least give you 256 MB (but don’t quote me on that.)

Yes, that’s what my research has found. Memory Masters on eBay is telling me this will work. As long as it’s low density, it should.
