Hi,
I've just received my mini. I am wondering what's the best way of charging. For sure, now with 'work from home' I will get over one day battery usage. I can charge it let's say every 1,5 day when I reach 20% and charge it to full, or charge it every night. I have always battery optimization on. Will it be more healthy for the iPhone to charge it regularly every night, or it is better to charge it only when it hits 20%?

I am using 5W wall brick for charging, because it is enough for me. I have the 20W usb-c charger, but only for emergency, never need to use it on a daily basis.

When I was in the Apple store last weekend I asked about USB C 20w charging because I wanted to buy a 20w. I thought it was to only be used in situations when you want to fast charge. The tech said you can use it as your only and primary charging. That’s the reason why they included a USB c cable. He said it’s not necessarily considered a fast charger only and / or only to be used when you want to fast charge.

So that’s what I use now. When I need a charge usually at around 20% I charge it USB c 20w.

I would just charge every night and leave battery optimisation turned on.
It’s pretty good at doing its thing once it learns your routine. Plus if you ever leave the house unexpectedly on the second day and didn’t charge overnight, it will probably be dead when you really need it.

I’m working from home and any of these scenarios will work. I choose to charge mine everyday since I don’t want to bother charging in the middle of the days. Not worth it for me. I am avoiding fast charging unless necessary unlike my xs max which I fast charge 2-3x a day.

I got my iPhone 12 Pro on launch day , Oct 23 . Everything is turned on as it should but optimized battery charging isn't kicked in yet .
I know it takes some time to learn but now it's been close to a month . With lockdown I'm mostly at home .
What's up ?

You have to fast charge you XS Max 2-3x a day?

The new charging combo isn’t a fast charge per se, it just charges fast.

Apple said you can use the 20w brick and USB C to charge as much as you want without it damaging your battery or the health of your battery.

Why are people afraid of the 20w USBC Apple branded combo?

It's a good question. I've always thought that slow charging is better for battery. Maybe optimization learn that long overnight charging with 20W brick do not need to be fast? I don't know, if anyone know or have some experience with that I'd like to know.

Ya the battery wasn’t performing well and I was using it to stream YouTube as background sound.

I was told there’s a chip that slows it down. It’s not a fast charger it’s a charger that charges fast that “optimizes” charging speed.

Plus why would Apple provide a USB C charging cable? Unless you can get a 5w USB C charging brick?

How exactly do you know if optimized battery charging is active or not? I had a XR for 2 years that always charged to 100% and the optimized battery was always enabled. I have yet to let my 12 Pro charge past 95% (manually) though.

When your battery charging view looks like this.

This was put on charge at around 10:30 pm and immediately charged to 80%, then stayed there most of the night before charging to 100% about an hour before my 6am alarm went off.

There is also a notification on the home screen saying at what time full charge is expected to finish .
