Mine on my Series 8 started to work to limit the charge to 80% when WatchOS 10 released but then after a few updates it just stopped and never had done the charge limit to 80% anymore :(
Same! I feel like they silently killed the feature. But unfortunately they didn’t put back the original optimized charging units place. They really need to do one or the other.

It actually does , I can see the graph on my watch .

The feature still works. You just have to be consistent every day when you place on the charger.
I go to bed and place the watch on the charger at the same time every night plus or minus 10 minutes. EVERY night. I wake at the same time every morning. I am always at the location my phone knows as “home”. I have all location privacy allowances turned ON and always have.

For some of us, this feature simply doesn’t work

It can take a few weeks or more for the machine learning to kick in.

I have had my watch from before WatchOS 10, then installed 10 the day it came out, and installed all the updates as THEY came out. Does it take MONTHS for a feature to work?

It shouldn't take months. You should contact Apple support and make them aware.

There is no need to capitalize words in a sentence. I can read just fine without your screaming.

It’d probably make more sense if Apple combined and duplicated the footnotes/captions of both the iPhone and Watch Optimized Charging documents.

Apple said:
Your Apple Watch takes time to learn your charging patterns before it uses Optimized Battery Charging. If your Apple Watch is new, or if you recently updated to watchOS 7 or later, the charging screen will say Charging to full.

Your Apple Watch takes time to learn your charging patterns before it uses Optimized Battery Charging or Optimized Charge Limit. If your Apple Watch is new, the charging screen will say Charging to full. Optimized Charge Limit changes dynamically depending on how you use your Apple Watch. Based on your usage patterns, your watch might charge to 100% on some days, and less on others.

In the iPhone document, there’s more detail:
Apple said:
* Optimized Battery Charging needs at least 14 days to learn your charging habits, so it won't engage before then. Also, your iPhone needs to experience at least 9 charges of 5 hours or more in a given location for Optimized Battery Charging to engage.

Also from the iPhone Optimized Charging support article:
Apple said:
With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

Which the importance falls on deaf ears while the misinformation of “it’s extremely damaging to the battery, never do it” echoes across the Internet like a clock tower bell — oh, yellow journalism (and most social media), how I despise thee.

Mine began to work after WatchOS 10 came out and yeah i do think it was 10 days after when the 80% max charge limit kicked in and worked but then after a month or two it just stopped and ive never seen it come back.
No change in usage or charge habit.

Im exactly the same i always place mine on the charger around 7pm give or take 10/20 mins. Been doing that everyday always.
Was working fine at the start now ive never seen it turn back on again as i mentioned.

Yes, I believe yours works. Several of us don’t get it to work ever except that one time it worked back on the 10.0 release. Every time since it won’t work. For some of us. That’s not a reliable feature.
