I charge my Apple watch 9 at around 7:00 PM, so it is fully charged to 100% before I go to bed to track sleep. Since the last update it will only charge to 80%, even though optimized charging is turned off. I can charge to 100% in the morning, which I don’t want to have to do.

I reset the watch but nothing lets me charge to 100% at night. Everything I have read says I should get to 100% whenever I charge as it used to do. Any help would be appreciated

You can make your watch charge to full before it's scheduled to do so:
  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is connected to its charger.
  2. Tap your watch to show the charging screen, then tap the circle with the green or yellow charging icon
  3. Tap Charge to Full Now.
Your Apple Watch takes time to learn your charging patterns before it uses Optimized Battery Charging. If your Apple Watch is new, or if you recently updated to watchOS 7 or later, the charging screen will say Charging to full.

If you want to turn off Optimized Battery Charging:
  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Scroll down, then tap Battery.
  3. Tap Battery Health.
  4. Turn off Optimized Battery Charging.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t understand why it is only being limited at night, even with optimized charging turned off. I will try tapping the circle tonight again, even though I think I already tried it.

I am experiencing the same exact thing on my Apple Watch 9. It started about 6 days ago. Prior to that it would charge to 100% at night because i always keep battery charging optimization off on all my devices. Touching the charging screen doesn’t seem to fix the issue permanently. This is a big problem for me. If anyone out there has a solution or knows how to formally submit a request/troubleshooting inquiry to Apple please let me know. Aside from calling and receiving the same info I already know, I’m at a loss.
