It does kill my 1gb limited mac mini 1.5ghz. I'm beachballing a lot.

There's a way to do it through terminal but it's not really necessary. It won't be active until you try opening it so the best way to disable it is to just not open it.

After a clean restart it will be closed. If you disable the F12 keyboard shortcut, get rid of any hot-corners you might have for it, and remove the dock icon it should be pretty difficult for you to open it by accident.
