Apologies if this has already been asked but I couldn't find it.

What 3G speeds are typical for Orange, just got my 3GS and the fastest so far is 231kbps.

I know this is a global forum, where is "Orange"

I am with Bell Mobility (Canada) - and I think I'd smash my phone with a hammer if I was getting speeds as slow as 231 kpbs.

Are you sure that's not kBps and not kbps? BIG difference.

    Typical speeds I get here are between 350kB/s and 450 kB/s which is 2867 Kb/s to 3686 Kb/s

3gs, all my speedtests are done using the free iphone app "speedtest.net - Ookla"

    I'm in the UK

I was in a building at the time so tried it outside last night and was getting just over 600kbps, at home this morning I'm getting over 1300kbps.

Still way down on what you're getting but much more usable.

    I'm also using speedtest.net

Much better.. I sometimes can get 1300 when indoors or in a bad area, getting 3578 kbps right now, and 296 upload.

Here in the U.S. I've seen AT&T's average speeds range from 600 kbps to 1,800 kbps.

I'd say that 1,200 kbps is pretty average. I see a few places faster and a few that are slower, but 1,200 is the most usual number I see.

Of course, there are also problem cities where overcrowding keeps it closer to 300 kbps, so I'm not saying it's great over here. But in the places where AT&T is good it's actually really good.

In Toronto, in my building at work... multiple tests taken at various depths within the building.

My 3g speeds are faster than my works WIFI

They just activated a new 3G tower within sight of my house, and I now consistently get between 1.3 and 1.6 Mbps, about 250 Kbps up. But I am not, by any means, in a big city.

Yeah, I just finished 3 weeks of business travel to over a dozen US cities. I can now see why people on this site rate AT&T from "sucks!" to "I love it!"

I experienced some really terrible places and some really fantastic ones. It's a big country!

I would be ecstatic to get 231 kbps, there again I would be over the moon to get 3G, or even Edge.

The maximum download I get from the ever wonderful O2 when running SpeedTest.net is

    28 kbps

    Yes 28 kbps

Upload is a fantastic 3 kbps

    Similar problems in Petersfield.

In Portsmouth I get a full 3G signal, must try a speedtest there.

I'm currently in central London and indoors, with a full 3G signal on Vodafone I'm getting 507kbps.

Just tested again, exactly the same place (my desk) as this morning and it's almost tripled 1321kbps.
