Hi all - anyone else getting strange colors on the screen after wake? It takes a sleep or restart to get the screen to go back to normal. I can even disable all other modifiers (NightShift, etc.) and the screen is still dark and orangeish - way beyond what it is even when NightShift is on. Photos show a bit about what it is doing, and when it is normal...

That looks like NightShift in a dark room.

Was the MBP plugged in for both shots.

Interestingly, it's actually darker than Nightshift is in this room. When I reboot and NS kicks in, it's still way brighter than that. And even going into the settings to fully disable NightShift doesn't change the darkness or the orange-osity. I have also had this happen w/ Nightshift disabled and before it was set to kick in (before Sundown).

Ok a few more shots

1) Normal w/o NightShift
2) Normal W/ NightShift
3) Orange/Dark w/o NightShift
4) Orange/Dark w/ NightShift

The two Dark/Orange ones are really strange looking and happen unexpectedly and unpredictably.

I’ll probably take it into the Apple Store on Monday.

Actually I have similar issue. It only happen when it wake from sleep, and it also happen on my external monitor as well.

My keyboard also not responsive sometime when it is wake from sleep, and again, it will only fix when I put it back to sleep and awake again. It is very random and have no idea what cause it.

I THINK it is OS issue, but let me know how's your trip to Apple store go.

EDIT: Just wondering, what is your configuration? Mine is i9, 32Gb, 5500M 8Gb.

Cool. So we have the same config. I still believe it is OS issue given it will fixed itself after sleep/awake cycle. Also while my external monitor (through docking) could have similar issue, it happened independently. i.e., My external monitor have yellow'ish colour, but my laptop screen could appear fine.

Anyway, hope you have some more ideas during your apple store visit.

Mine has happened a few times outside of wake/sleep cycle. Also, when it does happen and I have the display resolution set to 2048x1280, it resizes back to the default 1792x1120, but keeps the screen drawn at the larger size, putting all the corners/edges off the screen and unreachable, including the menu and taskbar. Manually trying to reset it back to 2048x1280 in System Preferences does nothing except flash the screen as it tries to resize, but it always comes back still at 1792x1120. A reboot is the only fix that I have found.

Heading to the Apple Store in ~1 hour to see what they have to say. The fact that I hhaven't seen many complaints of this here or on Reddit makes me think it a super rare software bug, or hardware. My guess is that they will want to swap it since it is so early in the lifecycle of the product and video cards, but I'm not sure. I have bandwidth caps on my Internet, so a rebuild (even after a system-to-system copy) means iCloud and Photos has to do a whole lot of downloading.

Back from Apple Store. They didn't' do real deep diagnostic, but wanted to swap it out, so I did that. Now restoring everything and after a couple of hours, with a few times doing wake/sleep I have not seen the same issue re-occur. They were very interested that the other occurrence was with the same configuration device as mine was.

Thanks for sharing. I actually expected they will swap it. I hope this fixed the issue for you. I am still thinking whether I should make a trip to apple store, or wait for the next Catalina release and see whether it will fix the issue or not.

I'm now a full work day of opening/closing and sleeping/waking on the new unit, and not had it resurface. And I did a device->device restore in the Apple Store to move my data over, so it likely wasn't a config issue that persisted over. Still no more sure if it were a hardware issue or not, but I'm glad it is fixed. Good luck. I'd love to know how you end up faring.

Have the same config and haven't seen it look like yours. Hopefully your replacement is good, but let us know if it comes back.
