2) There are a number of Orange employee's (such as myself) using the iPhone unlocked on Orange UK. They would just be sharing the settings with their colleagues.
Orange have not officially given staff members the settings for use with the iPhone. But the generic settings above are required for iPhone internet access.
At this stage I would not anticipate either the original or the 3G to be released on Orange UK.
On a side note I think Apple should have continued selling they stock of the original iPhone as SIM Free through their website only.
I agree, they could have made an absolute bundle!! I'm in the market for an unlocked iPhone at the moment but it's so hard to find a decent one at a decent price on eBay.
I guess it would have caused issues with warranty replacements for those who had issues with their first gen, but it would be nice to at least be able to buy the refurbs from their online store!
As long as you're using an unlocked iPhone you can use the settings in my post above.
You need to follow this path to put them in the right place
(this assumes you are using Software version 2.1 as I am)
1. Tap Settings
2. Tap General
3. Tap Network
4. Tap Cellular Data Network
5. Input the settings repeated below:
APN = orangeinternet
(all as one word, no space, and no capital letters)
Username = leave empty
Password = leave empty
The VPN access settings are for something different and for normal useage you can ignore them.
Hope this helps
PS
I just heard today that Orange UK has the exclusive on the HTC Touch HD, so definately wouldn't expect the iPhone to be added to the current range of handsets we offer.
