Instead of ordering on the Apple web site which takes longer. I went into an Apple Store and added myself to the waiting list for a 3G iPad.

Does anyone know if that qualifies me to be grandfathered in for the 3G unlimited plan? I have the email confirmation with the date when I was added to the waiting list.

    What do you think?

well if I were you I would go ahead and order online as well just to be sure and just cancel which ever one you no longer need.
BTW, you do know that even if you are grandfathered in, you *have to * continue the plan every single month and not go off and on as was originally advertized don't you?

Yeah, I know. I just want to figure out a way to have the grand father option. I'd rather start unlimited, realized I don't need it and cancel it versus not having the option of unlimited data and really needing it.

Excellent suggestion here to do both. Order online and reserve one.

It would seem to me that "ordering" and signing up for a waiting list are not the same thing.

AT&T's words were "anyone who orders and PAYS for an iPad 3G by 11:59pm 6-7-10 would be allowed to sign up for the unlimited service when the iPad arrived"

the key here is the phrase "pays for". when you reserve an ipad you do not pay for it until you pick it up so therefore no, it will not qualify.

Thank you for posting the correct AT&T verbage. By pay, I assume order on the apple site which I did a week ago.

Now the only other item is that I have seen some posts suggesting that once you go unlimited you can turn it off and on and not loose the unlimited plan

    Can anyone substatiate this?

No one knows for sure, but, I suspect that if the service is interrupted you will loose the unlimited. I just think it is going be a bit too much for AT&T to keep track who can have the option and who can't.

Just my opinion though, no knows for sure yet....

I just read in another thread that if you turn it off, next time you try to turn it on, you will be presented with the new plans. Makes sense to me.

I ain't turning mine off until I swap out my iPad for an Android tablet with Verizon. 12 months tops.
