Well..Ask your mother.
At first I was going to buy someone else's 15" MBP from this forum for about 1900. (2.53GHz). But recently, I made a long winding decision to tap into my savings, and since bought of my parents found jobs within the month and don't need me to "provide". Funny thing is I'm 15, and at one point, I was the only one in the house "with money left". After being drained of nearly 7K of life savings, I decided to treat myself. Times are getting better and my parents will soon be really productive as they once were.... Well, now I'm done with my rant...

Yup, it's expensive, but I just bought (within the hour) a 17" Macbook Pro. 2.93GHz.
I also selected for Final Cut Pro and Aperture to be preloaded.

In addition to this, I bought this on newegg:

(64gb ssd. Didn't need anything too fancy, since most of my stuff is going to be on an external drive)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609332

Since it's relatively inexpensive, I'm getting 8gb of ram..

I need a case...

Although I do have a question, will I be able to port FCP, Ature, and preloaded apps to the SSD?

Going to be a director some day, why not live the act. :p

How did you even have all that money saved up in the first place?

And you shouldn't have let your parents take your money...

Good choice although I think 4GB is plenty enough for a laptop, but for each their own. I'm curious, what's the total you spent on this? Remember to post pics of it too. Good luck.

That's sweet that you helped your parents out. Good for you. Glad things are turning around. I'm not the biggest fan of the SSD you chose though. You should consider canceling that. Do a google search for JMicron ssd issues or stutter and you'll understand why I'm suggesting that.

+1 on the JMicron drive.

Just read this

Congratulations on the purchase and don't listen to selfish people from North Korea.

Congratulations on your purchase. If you hadn't already planned on it, I would suggest buying a neoprene sleeve for your new computer. I would also recommend that you call this sleeve "Sleevie Wonder," because that makes me laugh.

I'm like 13 though, I always let my mom use my bday money for the rent :) and in return I get pretty much anything I want but I don't really want anything but my macbook and iphone, and with these 2 I am pretty much set for college and what not, since my father will provide for me. Anyways gratz on your macbook pro! But where does a 15 yr old get 7k$...and why buy SO much RAM? everyone is rich on these forums. :(

My parents dumped money into me since I was 0 years old. ;)

Just another kid lying about what they have. And even if you do have it, what does a 15 year old need that kind of power for? why not save a bit of money and give it to a charity. Do you know how many people in this world are suffering

What's the need to lie, if even pictures are going to be put up?? Gonna do a review and everything. I wouldn't be getting anything out of it.

Although not exactly satisfied with the GPU, I do quite a bit of gaming.

Secondly, I do A LOT of graphics. I can show you my portofolio.

At my high school, my course of study (I'll explain what that is, if you want) is directing and photography.

I intend to keep this laptop for my remaining three years of high school, even if it becomes outdated.

I have to consistently do "insane" amounts of video encoding/editing for school.

Over the summer, I go to several camps and do graphics. Yup, as nerdy as this may seem..

THAT's why I "need" that power.

So please, let's not be ignorant and presumptuous.

Because I'm not rich? I just have savings. If you threw me out in the real world, honestly, I probably wouldn't last long.

Good on ya! Congrats on the purchase. It seems well deserved. And good luck with your course of study.

PS - I like how you handle those less-than-supportive people in this thread. Don't let them get to you. They're just jaded with the amount of people that do lie in these forums.
