FWIW, Apple's "low end" models aren't....quite happy with my first Mac (spring 2010 15" MBP)

Agree with the links above. If you're used to Windows, Mac OS may feel a bit strange at first. However, it is more intuitive. Don't try to force it to do things the Windows way. Give yourself a few months...mos who switch love it.
