So I screwed up last night and didnt get to preorder until the shipping times were into December but I went ahead and ordered it on my IUP anyways and went to bed.

I woke up and found a model for pick up at a store not very close, but close enough that I could go pick it up on Friday. I was not able to change my IUP order so I reserved the phone as paid in full.

Has anybody else ever tried this and will I be able to have the phone I reserved in store switched to the IUP I have when I arrive?

Seattle. So close enough to go to but not close enough to go and find out it won't work out.

You may need to cancel the order, wait for the confirmation e-mail that it was canceled and then you can re-order and select the apple store pick up. By then you might be out of luck. Otherwise ring up apple and see what they say.

I say you can try cancelling the iup order and return/rebuy the reserved order when you go to pick it up next week. That's what I'd try doing.

Are you currently on IUP and this is an upgrade or did you just sign up for the first time?

Currently already on the IUP.

Ok so my understanding is upgrades for current IUP members are being shipped directly to participants and are no longer processed in store. Even the trade-ins aren't done in store anymore so I don't think you'll be able to. You can give it a shot when you do your in store pickup but don't be surprised if you can't. I wouldn't cancel the IUP order until you know for sure.

I think i will stop by a local apple store and ask. If they can't give me a answer I will try to see if I can do a iPhone 8 on the plan just to see if its possible. That should answer it.

You can still do them in stores, you just can also do them online now as well. He just needs to start a new loan for the phone when they ask him how to pay, since even an upgrade is a new loan anyway. And then just give the rep your old phone and it closes out your old loan.

Perfect. I hope it will be this easy.

Actually Upgrades for current IUP members can be processed in store if you choose the in-store pick up option. I've done this when I got the 8 Plus. I choose to do an in-store pick up and you hand in the old phone at the store as well. I'm not too sure about this for the iPhone X though.

I wasn't aware. Good to know

how did you find out theyre available for pick up? im in the same situation and would like to try to find one on the 3rd
I thought the pre-orders were delivery only, that you cannot pick store pickup yet? What am I missing?

Same here. How do you reserve for pick-up?

It had to have been available in your area. Like for me, at 12:10 last night, nothing in Phoenix was available for pickup launch day (based on my zipcode) except in Tucson, AZ, which is a 2+ hour drive away for me. So I had to choose delivery and got 2-3 weeks out.

I checked at 8 am this morning that the apple store near me showed available for pick up for the 64 GB model iphone X in space Gray Verizon model. So clearly you can set to have it store pick up. But probably no longer available now.

Wow... Portland to Seattle for a phone? That's a nice trek.

Good luck with I-5 traffic... try to come on a Sunday!
It’s actually Tacoma so not as bad and used to make that drive for work all the time.

Worth it to me to avoid waiting until the middle of December.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense - great for you :)

Its not something I was really checking this morning, as I wasn't on apple.com, but I thought they had turned it off, hence my question. I guess they didn't but inventory ran out fairly quickly.

Tacoma to Seattle is nothing lol. I would probably be willing to drive further if I was desparate to have on launch.
