Personally, I would rather buy a 512GB MacBook. We are already spending lots of money on MacBook, and the premium from 256GB to 512GB is just less than 10% of the price of MacBook (MBP 2017 for reference)...

Thanks, mate.

I'm currently looking at the 13" MBP TB model, and debating if I really am going to be okay with the 512GB SSD. I think I'll be fine, considering I intend to use external storage for just about everything. If I can score the loan for the equipment, the 128GB iPhone will easily kill my storage on that MBP within a month, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this lol. I immediately thought of my situation when I saw the comment about the 256GB iPhone, so I figured I'd chime in ;) sometimes we overlook the simpler details...... which I'm trying to learn from haha.

Cheers guys, and hopefully the OP ends up happy with his new MBP. Definitely interested in how fast that SSD fills up.

512gb for a macbook should be ok as it is the minimum storage size that is 'enough' for majority of people for the use as 'working' space. other than that, the external storage can act as the secondary.

I hope you do realise what you're getting for that money. Here are some examples of Apple's expensive ways of doing things listed by Bolt VC- https://blog.bolt.io/no-you-cant-manufacture-that-like-apple-does-93bea02a3bbf

These laptops are not cheap to manufacture, and they also have a ton of overhead. The price is justified when you break everything down. That's just how business works. If they drop their prices, they not only lose their premium price point, but they also start losing money that many of us are willing to pay them. Can you really find a comparable laptop? I'm not talking paper specs, either; I mean a laptop that is comparable in every way. The ridiculous packaging, insane unibody manufacturing... the list truly does go on if we were to really analyse their product line. Not to mention, the SSD is not going to give you performance like a normal off the shelf SSD.

Sure, it is an expensive notebook; I'll give it that. On the other hand, show me another laptop that can last as long as the MBP while giving you a similar video editing experience, similar display capabilities, and that's just as slim and portable. If you know of one, please tell me where to buy it. I have a pitch this weekend for a loan, and if I can shave off a few extra hundred off my tab I'll at least consider it for the extra storage. Not trying to get argumentative here, just trying to make a point....... and possibly save some money if I've overlooked anything lol

I mean, I think it would be enough, but having 1TB internal would make my life much easier lol. For the extra $400 that SSD will cost, I could buy a nice hub to plug into one side, many terabytes of external storage, and pay for a month or two of cell service..... and I'd still have beer money left over. Then again, I'd like to avoid dumping my phone's video files and take up as much as 10-20% of my entire SSD. I'm also working with a 500GB HDD right now, and with only 4 projects I have about 50GB remaining... depending on when I check it. Then again, I'd be using Thunderbolt 3, so it isn't like that's a major hinderance.

Worth mulling over nonetheless. I'll just pretend I've helped someone figure things out from my rambling.

I know 512 is a minimum for me, and most likely I will get 1TB. I travel daily with my MBP and it has become my only computer, so I would rather not have to worry about an external drive also.

I did decide on keeping the 512. Got a great job offer and with my 21st coming up I'm sure paying it off won't be too hard. Now to just get Apple care on this beast.

Who honestly fills all 256gb of their iPhone though...

I have a 256GB iPhone 7 and currently only have 30GB left. majority of it is music, videos, and photo library. I can't stream music all the time so I keep a lot of it locally.

I'm also the person that got 1TB SDD on the MBP.

I got myself a 512GB SSD MBP 13 (2016). Thinking I just want to try things out on Mac OS...

Then... I fell in love with MacBook, and wished I bought the 1TB SSD model...

But, I'm glad enough that I ordered 512GB SSD instead of 128GB SSD...

512gb is a minimum storage size one should get and it should be ok for most. of course the more the merrier.
