if I buy the new iphone from apple does it get to me on launch day? And if it does what do I do? Do I take it down to AT&T to get it activated? Is there anything bad about doing it this way? And what if I need to change my plan to add data?

I was about to post pretty much the same question—glad I checked first.

When I spoke with an Apple rep I asked if the phone was already configured for me when it arrives and she said that all I'd need to do is tether it through my computer (total paraphrase, but she did say "tether," or "tethering"). I didn't ask further, but I thought tethering was not available for us till late summer. Also, in order to get my phone book numbers transferred, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to do this myself...so, either Apple or ATT store, correct?

Thanks for your answer.

ps, yes, it's supposed to arrive on the 19th.

You can activate your phone at home.
Wtat the CS(Custmer Service) rep MEANT was, " When you get your phone, connect to iTunes and follow the instructions to activate it."

You do not have to go down to ATT.
