I have a preorder in for the JB Plus and would prefer not to wait until November for its delivery. My local store occasionally has the regular black model that I'd like available on the IUP reservation page. I've read recently that they fixed the loophole where anyone can use that page to reserve a phone.

My question: if I am signing up for the IUP at the time of purchase, will they sell me the phone? As in, I am not currently part of the program.

My only snag is that I signed up for IUP when placing my preorder, so I don't want the loans to get messed up. I've been told I'd need to cancel my preorder at least 24 hours in advance for the loan to be cancelled (but have also read that others had their originally loan get cancelled automatically after the bank saw that the order was canacelled when purchasing the new device.)

Your loans do get cancelled if you cancel the pre-order. I cancelled mine yesterday and got an email from citizens one notifying me that the loan has been closed out. If you do go to the store you do have to reapply for another loan. You can also order online for pick up as well if they have it in your area. It should tell you available for pick up. The latter option you are guaranteed to get one no issues.

I was able to reserve a phone for pickup this evening through the IUP page. However, I am not trading in a phone as I am signing up for the IUP (was not previously enrolled). With them closing the "loophole" recently, does it seem like they'll sell me the phone tonight?

And I'm glad that the original loan will be cancelled, but when do I need to cancel it? I'd prefer to wait until I know that they'll sell me the phone this evening...

As long as you are signing up for the program you are fine. The loophole was closed for those who reserved through the program and then changed payment method in store.

Nice! So it looks like my only potential snag is that I was already approved for the IUP loan when I placed my preorder and have not yet cancelled. I read on here that someone else was in the same boat and was able to buy one anyway. The loan simply cancelled itself after it saw that the original preorder was cancelled. I hope that this is the case!

Worst case scenario: If I must cancel my preorder/loan prior to purchasing, I wonder if they'd hold my phone at the store another 24 hours while that processes.

From what I read the loophole was closed for anyone who wasn't an existing member of the iPhone upgrade program. Payment method should still be able to be changed, but they won't let you use the reservation unless you currently have an iPhone under the iPhone upgrade program.

I read it as, only IUP members can change financing. Not that only IUP can reserve phones. So if you are currently part of the program you can reserve and change financing. If you are not part of the program, you can reserve but you must use IUP.

Can I change from the iPhone Upgrade Program to a different form of payment?
Yes. You must be currently enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program, so that you can upgrade your iPhone to carrier financing, or purchase at full price. Ask a Specialist for more information.

This was my concern. I'll give it a try tonight anyway to see...

Hopefully you're correct because that would be good for the OP. I'm just lucky because I got in before the loophole was closed.

Good point. Now that you point it out, that's how it reads to me too.

I... have no idea what to expect tonight! But I'll plan on going and see what happens. And I will not cancel my preorder prior to going.

Hoping for the best!

While that is the case, it all depends on the salesperson. I reserved mine yesterday afternoon using the iUP reservation link and picked it up, told the guy I was not enrolled in iUP and he was fine with it, even the that was on the reservation e-mail and was able to buy the 7 Plus at full price. It all depends and if they choose to honor it or not.

Back from the Apple Store with fantastic news: I got the phone! Zero issues at all. The guy was super nice and didn't question a thing at all. He did not have me cancel my preorder in the store. Instead, he recommended I do it afterward to make sure that everything went through properly, which it did. Since I was already approved for the loan (it's good for 30 days), they didn't need to do another credit check.

So excited! Thanks for the help and advice, everyone!

FALSE

I reserved online via IUP. Went to Apple Store and said I wanted to pay full price outright. Paid and walked out with a Verizon Version (I am an ATT customer). No questions asked. Iphone Plus 256 Matt Black. Got home popped in my
ATT sim and it works perfectly.

What do you mean false. These are the exact words from Apple's website and there is a whole front page article about this. If your store didn't follow the new guidelines that is on them. But the general consensus now is what I posted above. There are plenty of people that are being turned away.

Congrats. I am glad to hear it worked out for you, I am hoping to do the same if I can find a phone in store. Enjoy yours! :)
