Ordering Unlocked iPhone 3G?

I'd be curious to see how that works out. My impression (albeit I have no evidence for this) is that a carrier can only provide unlocking services for iPhones that they themselves had sold.
Which way is better to unlock your iPhone? The TurboSim or using software such as Autoiphoneunlocker?
I bought one from Hong Kong (actually I am from there)
but I am going to use it in the states for my remaining year for college...

Of the two I'd say Turbo SIM. But you need to know what you are doing and what you are buying because they don't all work. Autoiphoneunlocker doesn't work at ALL. (for the 3G)
It says it does. Apparently they have a new version of their software.
From what i gather the turbosim only works with the sim in there all the time. Take it out and it is locked again. Is this not correct?
The software sounds like a better way to go plus you get extras.
Where do you see anything about the iPhone 3G on that site? Buy it, I bet it won't work.
Edit: In fact it shows x's for the 3G unlock.
The TurboSIMs have widely been reported to work (here's a guide as an example) but there's a lot of controversy over this approach -- besides being "inelegant," it's a lot less straightforward on the iPhone that it is generally (or than Pwn'ing is), and some people, even in the hacker community, apparently consider this solution illegal (apparently the iPhone Dev Team thinks that this method violates the laws -- for reasons that were a little complicated for me to fully understand -- in a way that other methods such as theirs or the old ZiPhone / Geohot type unlocks did not).

NO HARDWARE UNLOCK. I think it's really risky, it voids warranty,
may brick iphone and it's not cool to have chinese illegal card in my phone.
When I had original iphone, there was ziphone, which allowed me unlock
iphone reeeeaally easy, and I hope they make something like that for
iphone 3g soon.

Currently studying in NZ and i bought my unlocked iphone 3g here. Comes unlocked right out of the box- no need to call or anything. Tried a Malaysian sim card which worked fine and bought 2 other iphone 3Gs for my friends in the UK and they're using it with no probs.

Hey, I can only tell you what's available. Why on Earth did you buy a phone you knew you could not software unlock with the expectation of using it unlocked? Just so you could come here and complain to us about the lack of a solution? Does that make any sense at all?
Here are your options:
1) Use a TurboSIM
2) Throw it in a drawer and wait for the increasingly unlikely event of a software unlock being developed.
3) Sell it and get something else.
