Original iPhone 16gb...unlock or not before selling?

I have an original iPhone 16gb that I would like to sell but wondering if I should sell it the way it is or unlock it first? I have no experience with unlocking a phone, and am afraid that I will mess it up if I try...is there any easy to follow instructions for unlocking the iphone?
