Just wondering if anyone could advise on my dilema....

My relative is about to sell their iphone (4gb). It is the very first edition of iphone launched and is in mint condition and barely used. The price is $217 (£140).

My other alternative was to buy an ipod Touch 4 (8gb) for $291 (£189).

Prices might seem expensive but i am in the UK.

The reasons I want one of these products are....

    - There are some apps I would like to download and use myself.
    - I want to learn to develop apps and will need a product to test on.
    - My ipod is old so I would like some kind of replacement.
    - It would be nice to use the internet while out and about.
    - I currently have a mobile phone on pay-as-you-go but could use my relative's original iphone as a replacement for that if I went with that option.

    Reasons against iphone
    - It's the oldest model so I don't think it uses the latest operating system - might make it difficult to test/develop apps

    Reasons against the itouch
    - It doesn't have a phone
    - I think it only has wifi so not so easy to use the internet when out and about

In an ideal world, I would buy an iphone 4 but i can't afford it at all at the moment and don't want to be in any kind of contract.

    Which would you go for?

I'd go for the iPod touch 4 - 4GB of storage really isn't that great and the 4G would be much faster with retina and front facing camera too.

    Amazon is selling 8GB for £184 ;)

For me to know, you to find out. :)
    iPod touch 4g.

Since you're developing apps, it's good to keep up with both the latest software and hardware.

Definitely the iPod Touch 4 since you plan to develop for it.
