I have one of the original MacBook 12s. I really love the form factor and the laptop overall, and it still exactly fills my needs.

The keyboard, however, has always felt dead to me, dead keys, feels only slightly better than typing on an iPad.

Last week I was at an apple store and was playing with a new MacBook air with its newer design butterfly keyboard.. holy cow what a difference!

Is there any way to get that new keyboard design on my old MacBook?

I think your only option would be to trade it for a 2017 model. The keyboard is much better than the 2015 and 2016 models, but maybe not as good as the 2019 MBA (never tried one).

In the UK CEX has several 2017 12" MacBooks for around £600 which come with 14 days return (if bought on line) and two years warranty. They would give you about £320 trade in for a 2015 model.

I bought one from CEX a few months ago. Grade B because no box but mint and only 14 cycles 98% battery health.

I imagine there are similar outfits in the US.

There's just not the room in the 12" case to take the updated keyboards. Even the earlier MBPs couldn't have the latest amended keyboard fitted.

I just played with one of the new MBAs and I really loved the feel of the keyboard, I just can't justify the expense right now.. My MacBook 12 works fine and I adjust the to the keys quickly, but it seems like every time I sit down, I have to readjust..
