Hasn't the original mid-2012 rMBP cost around $2200 as well? Maybe the price will go down next year by $200 which is still 200 more than the previous one, but when you think about it, is there really a cheaper alternative? Sure you can buy some high end Windows laptop, but the build quality, battery, portability and 'longevity' aren't nearly as good while the price with the same specs comes close to the MBP. Yes, they ditched the cheaper MBAs, but Apple was never about affordability even if they say so. Don't get me wrong, I still hate the fact that they got rid of basically all ports which aren't even consistent with their mobile lineup (3.5 jack vs lightning; usb-c vs usb-b - really?) and I couldn't care less about the OLED bar. But.. but.. it's not that terrible, they're just trying to combine the portable and pro laptops which apparently people don't like.
