The holes were perfect on series 0 and 3. Third hole. Now with the thinner watch it’s too loose on 3 and slides up my wrist by about an inch and makes the heartbeat detection less reliable. On 2nd hole noticeably tight.

Watch came with the seashell loop which is infinitely variable so I guess I’ll go with that. Will miss my green series 0 band. They’re not made any longer and I get a lot of compliments on it.

Not complaining just pointing out. By definition the old sport loop can’t fit the same if the new watch is thinner. Just math.
It may be just math, but the difference that would throw off your holes just a little could be the difference that makes someone else's fit just right. If wrists were a manufactured item, your point would make more sense. Because they are quite variable, your point is just that uniformly spaced watch bands may not fit everyone perfectly, but this is hardly unique to the Apple watch or its new or old size.

I think he means that the thinner watch means the same bands complete a slightly smaller circumference than with a thicker watch and that this makes it not fit as well for him.
A picture would be helpful in conveying his issue.

How about some words, like these ones:

I think that pretty clearly states his issue, yet half the people replying don't seem to have read anything beyond the first sentence before doing so.

I think it’s a pretty difficult thing to make sense of with a picture so I’m not sure a photo would help.

The trouble is that one person’s strap now being too loose or too tight when previously it was perfect is another person’s strap now being perfect when it was previously too loose or too tight.

The space between holes isn’t that big so for me there are often too possible choices but if there’s no comfortable option now then loops (sport, leather or Milanese) are the way to go.

Case thickness alone doesn’t explain the difference in fit though. The 1st gen was 10.5mm thick, the S3 was 11.4mm and the S4 is 10.7mm so you would expect the S3 to be the oddball. The slightly longer case of the S4 must be making the biggest contribution to the fit.

Regardless, though, one person's "this doesn't fit anymore" is another person's "wow, this finally fits great."

It doesn't really have anything to do with the bands or the watch, per se, it's the nature of bands with holes. The change to the S4 could just as easily have made OP's band fit better.

I'm just asking for a picture sheesh . Never, mind
Look at a picture comparing the two watches. One is 2mm taller. That alone makes the bands 2mm longer.

1mm thinner and 2mm taller make the bands a little looser.

True.
