Airport Hardware Not Found
My wife encountered this problem a couple of times recently on her Mac Powerbook G4, purchased Feb. '06, problem first occurred Feb. '07. There was no Airport icon above the desktop. At System Preferences/Network, there was the indication "Airport Hardware Not Found." The problem cured itself after some time (following shutdowns and starts), but then recurred later.
Following a tip on a Macworld forum, we successfully solved the problem, at least for a few days, with the following:
- Shut down
- Restart, holding down Apple+Option+O+F (Open Firmware)
- at OK and prompt (>), type: reset-nvram ENTER
- at OK and prompt, type: reset-all ENTER
- The computer reboots and the airport icon appears
- The computer calls for a reboot, which we do
- The computer says something like "Settings damaged; quit or use backup?"
- Click on "Use Backup"
- The computer then functioned normally.
Hope this helps others.
