Hello. I'm new to the Mac world, so please bear with my question. It's my understanding that the OS automatically updates itself whenever there is a new version available from Apple. I am wondering then - when there is a completely new edition of the OS out (Leopard), is this also automatically updated for Mac users? Or would you need to buy it?

Thank you,

When there's a new 10.4.x update, it will appear in your Software Update and you can set it to automatically downlaod.

If there's a new version of the OS, 10.3 (Panther) to 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.4 to 10.5 (Leopard), it's a new OS so you need to purchase the new one for around $129 if you want the functionality it offers. Some update every OS, some every other OS or when they get a new computer - it depends on whether the features are what you need.
