:O

yes on shutdown quiting apps is much faster
boot up is faster
an opening apps is faster
also dock resizing seems smoother

Updated with the normal installer (not combo) downloaded manually.
Can't notice any big difference (First boot after the update).
But I can assure that there are no problems (/me says remembering the nightmare of Service Packs...)

Noticed the increased SSD performance too. I thought the cloning might have slowed things down somehow, but after 10.5.8, all things are ZZZZZIP! again.

No discernible difference for me either. If anything is a nanosecond or two faster I haven't noticed.

there's any real difference by installing the combo update, other than reliability?

I always updated through Software Update since 10.4 and never had problems... :)

usually nothing happens, but to pervent any troubles ..

(it depense what apps/daemons are installed by the user.

New bug on G5

After 10.5.8 update, it takes about 90 seconds for sleep to actually kick in, and in the meantime the fans will pick up speed.

Shutdown also hangs... I had to hold the power button.

I think it might be a new bug in the USB drivers. I have an HP 3065 monitor connected, which has a USB 2.0 hub. There are some log messages in Console that might be pointing towards that.

I have noticed that, if you clean all your caches using Onyx or a similar application, everything is a lot faster. It does not hurt to clear your caches every month or so.

It seems to have fixed my Mighty Mouse randomly disconnecting.

I would have to go up to the bluetooth icon and click "Open Bluetooth Preferences" in order for them to talk to each other.

Since the update, it hasn't dropped once.

Thanks Apple! :apple:

slightly faster shut down and start up times. adobe applications open up dramatically faster. activity monitor shows a lot less consuming processes. new sexy mobile me icon.

feels quicker from what I heard , there has to be a way to test it with some proof , compare them both.

maybe its me but I've not noticed any increase in it being snappy© Overall I'm pleased with the update, but its been a rare occasion that I've not, and even rarer the I opted to downgrade (but it has happened)

A question concerning the automatically downloaded update
20090807-x2ikxqmst1psgc33574a858xd3.png

If I choose not to install this update, but choose to manually download the combo-update and install the combo, what exactly happens to the automatically downloaded update?
Is it placed in a folder and do I have to delete it manually?

its placed in /Library/Updates. quit Software Update, install the combo, reboot, then delete the Updates folder (might have already been removed after reboot).

So it obviously is temporarily placed in the Updates folder.
With the last 10.5.7 update I installed the combo update instead and I tried searching for the downloaded update which I couldn't find in the Updates folder.
Thanks!

Me too. It hasn't dropped since a couple days now. That's exactly what I was looking for in 10.5.8.:)
