combo update "works" from 10.5 on every update;

via software you have to have 10.5.7 to get updated .. (to 10.5.8)

combo is always better, as if some files are "not right" it updates everything.

this all in simple words ...

My girfriend loves me more, the sky is bluer, food tastes better and OS X is faster.

This update is awesome!

I haven't had any problems since installing 10.5.8, but I also wouldn't go so far as to say my system is running any better or worse than it was under 10.5.7. Just my $.02.

Agree. I don't usually restart or shut down my mac except for updates, and don't really notice any stability or performance increase.

Just my plain ol' reliable macbook. :)

ic, thanks. my mackbook has started to take a while (more than I anticipated) to restart so maybe this will boost it up a bit

there are a few things that slows down the startup, and an OS update isn't exactly a magic wand, it does fixes other things...
to have a snappier system on startup you may once in a while clean caches and repair permissions, this usually helps and there are a lot of free apps that do so :)

Hi,

Downloaded the update and noticed Safari loads faster. Not sure whether that was because I did a fresh install of the OS because first time I tried to update it required a restart and hung on "Starting installer script" for ages and wouldn't boot past the Apple screen. Works fine now though and seems alright.

With the 10.5.8 update, my PowerBook G4 is now even snappier than it ever was on Tiger. Really amazing. Also instead of Leopard alone taking 20% of my RAM, it now takes about 11% at max usually around 2-5%. The CPU now Idles at 0-1%. Its really amazing. The PowerBook now feels like a brand new machine. Games run better and now I can kick up the settings in Penumbra and just about any other game that was just under par on this machine, any YouTube lag I got when it was loading the video while doing playback is now gone, apps launch instantly now, I never wait more than an instant for iTunes to open anymore. Its just so amazing. Apple managed to bring an update to make my aging machine feel like a brand new one again.

Apple... I love you :p
:apple:

Are you sure it hung? 10.5.8 rebuilds the permission database during the installer script, and it does take a while.

I already installed the automatic update =x what would happen if I go and download the combo and install it over the automatic update?
