Has anyone had any luck ordering the Snow Leopard OS X DVDs for a 2012 Mac Pro (that obviously didn't come with 10.6?) I feel sure I can work around it and install it from the 10.6.0 disc with the combo updater and USB drive, but would like to to have the original media if it is available and reasonably priced.

I figured Apple will tell me it is "unsupported" and didn't come with it new, but I feel confident it would work if it were available.

I am checking eBay but no luck on there yet...

Do you own an original version of Snow Leopard? If you do, why not create your own media?

I do - and I can try it. I was just curious if they would sell it to anyone without a machine with a serial number of a 2010 machine that originally came with it. I have a 2012.

I will attempt the install from the 10.6.0 Box Set media that I have and report back.

With the 2010 model, you could only install SL with a 10.6.4 + image - anything below wouldn't work.

I got around this by using my Mbp which had 10.6.8 installed - just 'restore from time machine back up' to wipe the rubbish lion off.

The 10.6.0 installer won't have drivers for the ATI 5770 or 5870, so it won't boot properly.

If you have access to another Mac, then you can use Target Disk Mode to get around some of the restrictions.

There are a few guides about making a 10.6.8 installer, but I never had any luck following them.
