OS X 10.6.8: audio volume and Flash

Am I imagining things, or has anyone else noticed reduced audio volume output and Flash causing MBPs to run hotter?
 
I just got a mac, and I've noticed that flash (eg. youtube) volume is lower than everything else on my system.

Any reason for that?
