Apple is preparing a supplemental update for OS X 10.8.5 to address several issues with FaceTime HD cameras on the company's latest MacBook Air models, external drive handling, HDMI audio, and USB Bluetooth adapters, reports 9to5Mac. The update, which arrives as Build 12F42, has been seeded to Apple employees and should be making its way to a public release in the near future.
The OS X v10.8.5 Supplemental Update is recommended for all users running OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5. This update:

- Resolves an issue that may prevent certain applications from using the FaceTime HD camera on mid-2013 MacBook Air systems
- Fixes an issue that may cause external drives to be ejected after the computer goes to sleep
- Addresses an issue that may prevent HDMI audio from working after waking from sleep
- Fixes an issue that may prevent certain USB Bluetooth adapters from working
The FaceTime camera issue in particular has been the subject of a number of complaints, with Skype issuing a notice acknowledging the issue.
The 10.8.5 update updated a CoreMediaIO plugin that accesses the MBA camera, but didn't bundle the 32-bits version of it.

Other (older and newer) versions of the OS do include a universal version (32 and 64 bits), but not 10.8.5.

This means 32-bits apps such as Skype or iMovie cannot load the plugin, making the built-in facetime camera invisible to these them.
Skype noted in its post two weeks ago that it would be in touch with Apple about addressing the issue.

Like how it HOSED the perms on my MBP 13".
Had to do a repair perms twice before I could even create folders or copy items between folders on the same disk.

I'm holding back on this update for our corporate users.

If only they can fix the issue with my Retina MB taking 10 minutes to wake up from sleep for me to enter my login credentials.

I'm glad they're addressing the hdmi issue when waking from sleep, having to turn my mac mini off every time im done using it is quite annoying

Hope it fixes the issue of drives ignoring Energy Saver settings and and going to sleep with Display Sleep.

had a feeling to hold off on the 10.8.5 update...

It least the fix to the update was pretty fast.

Good to hear they are fixing the HDMI audio issues, I haven't been able to use my MBP as normal since I upated :(

I am hopeful regarding the fix for some external hard drives to be ejected when a Mac goes into sleep mode. For me it's being happening since 10.8.4 I believe but so far it's happened with WD my passport 2TB HDD. Then again, they claimed that 10.8.4 fixed the iMessage out of order problem and I still keep on experiencing it. :(

It's quite astonishing how many people have reported several issues regarding the rMBP since its launch... my 2011 MBA functions just fine without any hardware specific problem since the very day I bought it. I guess with a brand new product it's almost always a wise move to hold off for at least one generation...

I'm sure the latest update killed my iMac. Shortly after updating, I started getting odd display behaviour (like it flickering, then cutting out to odd vertical lines and a blue screen). Now it won't boot, displays the Apple logo for a minuite and then goes to a white screen.

I'm taking it to the Apple Store on Thursday, was wondering if anyone else with a 27" i7 2011 iMac has a similar issue?

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? That may possibly be an issue with the graphics card however may well be an issue with the latest software update like you said.

I have yet to update to .5 and decided to hold off after reading there was a few different problems people were experiencing with it. Hopefully this fixes them and I can go ahead and update myself.

Yeah, the audio out via HDMI is breaking after wake from sleep on mine too.
Annoying to have to reboot.
Hope they push this out soon.

Yeah, my system does match the recent "defective AMD GPU" line, so that was my initial though. Then, it did only happen after installing the update, and the boot screen displays perfectly fine, up until a point when the screen goes completely white, could be a driver issue?

I have tried safe mode, but get to the same stage. :(

Sound Quality

Hopefully a correction according sound/audio issue.

Anyone else have this?
Just updated to 10.8.5 and there is indeed a drop in sound quality. Irritating since I have high quality speakers. I used CC cloner prior to the update and unless they release a mini update to correct the problem soon I will revert back to 10.8.4. Though, I would not hold our collective breath since the bug with CAC cards I was aware of for over 2 years ago and they finally got around to fixing it. I repeatedly sent in bug reports and tried everything under the sun to fix the CAC bug and yet it took well over 2 years to correct.
I will try to reset the PRAM.......

First the Apple TV 6.0 update got re-released, then the EFI patch for the new iMacs, now this?

Looks the OS X and iOS teams are finally catching up on their backlog with iOS 7 out the door and Mavericks nearing GM.
