I've been having serious Bluetooth problems with my apple wireless keyboard and trackpad even since the last update. I hope this fixes that issue. It mentions a Bluetooth fix, but for USB adapters. I'm using the internal Bluetooth on my 2012 Mac mini.

Fix for disconnecting drives on sleep, yes please! I typically have around 4 virtual machines running off an external drive on my iMac at any given time, and it was just so much fun having to reboot each one, go through disk repair, etc whenever my system woke up. So. Much. Fun.

The last two mornings, I've had to do a hard reset on my 2010 iMac because after waking, all apps were unresponsive. I have three external HDD's connected to it.

Would this update potentially address my issue?

Fix the update in iTunes 11.1 where a thousand freaking permissions are jacked up and cannot be repaired by disk util.

Not a big deal, but...

Why would this not be named 10.8.6? It seems as substantial as other 10.8.x updates.

Just curious.

+1

It would also make it a lot easier to keep track of if you have a number of macs to update.

They did the same with 10.6.8 too :-(

"- Fixes an issue that may cause external drives to be ejected after the computer goes to sleep"

My external NAS drives that are mounted on my desktop are always ejected once I come back to my computer. Sometimes the next day, sometimes it takes a few days. I can never figure out why. Then I have a tough time re-mounting without restarting either the comp or the NAS.
I hope this fixes it..

Say "No" to Supplemental Updates

Ever since Apple goofed with the first release of 10.6.8, they came out with a 10.6.8 Supplement Update AND a 10.6.8 update that included the supplemental update for those who had not yet upgraded to 10.6.8.

Talk about confusion for IT managers all around!

Ever since, rather than add another .x to a software release, Apple has continued this Supplemental Update trend.

And here we go again. 10.8.5 Supplemental Update, not to be confused with the original 10.8.5 release, and certainly not to be confused with the 10.8.5 update to be released with the supplemental update included.....

Apple needs to stop this nonsense. Just call it 10.8.6 and be done with it.

Agreed!

Fix the update in iTunes 11.1 where a thousand freaking permissions are jacked up and cannot be repaired by disk util.

Lots of permissions can't be fixed within the OS. The files are typically locked by the system or user. The only way to fix those permissions is to reboot the computer in recovery mode. Once you get to the recovery screen, choose disk utility and repair the permissions.

Note: You don't actually initiate a recovery, you just want to boot into it.

With this update, and the iMac update today, it feels like Mavericks is running behind schedule.

Tried that to fix the long list of permissions introduced by the iTunes update, seems to work while booted from the recovery partition, ie., the 2nd run of Fix permissions doesn't show that long list, suggesting that it worked, However, on rebooting from the main partition and running Fix permissions again shows that same long list!
Everything seems to work OK, but why can't Apple fix something so elementary? Not

10.8.5 Renders WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo Dead in the Water

Same story, same result. Purchased My Book Thunderbolt Duo 4TB. Installed WD Drive Utilities App. Updated software. Finder sees "My Book Thunderbolt Duo" and "WD Drive Utilities". But the application reports "No Drive Attached" and "Attach a supported WD drive". Called Western Digital. They recommended all sorts of workarounds, including uninstalling then not updating WD Drive Utilities software, all to absolutely no avail. They concluded its related to the Mac OS X 10.8.5 update last week. Very frustrating to say the least.

I was wondering my my external drives would eject after waking my iMac back up.

I'm having the same issue on my 2012 iMac. I hope this update corrects the issue.

10.4 has been a disaster update for my late 2012 iMac. Going to sleep now takes ages, as does waking it from sleep, and I've been having some very odd TM issues too!

Yes. I have the same issue. Every time my 2010 iMac or 2009 MacBook Pro sleeps, I have to hard reset them to use them again. Not good for the drives at all.

Both my machines have secondary internal drives which are being ejected on sleep. I'm confident this update will fix that, and we'll have our Macs back.

As a temporary fix to your problem, set your Display sleep to 'Never'. It's not enough to set the hard drive sleep to never, for some reason. Then, manually sleep your iMac.

Okay. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully this forthcoming update will, in fact, fix the problem.

Sleep issues

Hoping that this fixes the sleep issue my 2007 MBP has been experiencing since updating to 10.8.5.

My computer wouldn't wake up from sleep, so I ended up restarting the computer. Wondering if this might be related to the non-standard Western Digital Scorpio Blue hard drive that was installed.

I ended up changing the power settings to not let the hard drives go to sleep. This seems to have sort of fixed the issue, but now the computer doesn't go to sleep all the way. End up having to just turn off the computer each time I'm done, instead of letting it fall asleep. Normally with my laptop, I just let it go to sleep, instead of going through the full process of shutting down and starting up.

Hmm.. I wonder if it's not actually fixing the permissions or if the booted OS is caching these invalid permissions still.

I would report this to Apple.

What's happen on OS X 10.8.5?

1. External drives to be ejected so often! Yes, this problem drives me crazy!

2. Why Safari works slower than Chrome on OS X 10.8.5????
Safari doesn't work.....I only can use Chrome of Firefox for net on iMAC

3. What's going on? only copy 14.53G...3 hrs

It's neither. The report indicates that whatever list of file permissions is used thinks that a bunch of the files inside the iTunes app are supposed to be directories, but they aren't.
