Why would this not be named 10.8.6? It seems as substantial as other 10.8.x updates.
Just curious.
Ever since Apple goofed with the first release of 10.6.8, they came out with a 10.6.8 Supplement Update AND a 10.6.8 update that included the supplemental update for those who had not yet upgraded to 10.6.8.
Talk about confusion for IT managers all around!
Ever since, rather than add another .x to a software release, Apple has continued this Supplemental Update trend.
And here we go again. 10.8.5 Supplemental Update, not to be confused with the original 10.8.5 release, and certainly not to be confused with the 10.8.5 update to be released with the supplemental update included.....
Apple needs to stop this nonsense. Just call it 10.8.6 and be done with it.
Fix the update in iTunes 11.1 where a thousand freaking permissions are jacked up and cannot be repaired by disk util.
Tried that to fix the long list of permissions introduced by the iTunes update, seems to work while booted from the recovery partition, ie., the 2nd run of Fix permissions doesn't show that long list, suggesting that it worked, However, on rebooting from the main partition and running Fix permissions again shows that same long list!Agreed!

Lots of permissions can't be fixed within the OS. The files are typically locked by the system or user. The only way to fix those permissions is to reboot the computer in recovery mode. Once you get to the recovery screen, choose disk utility and repair the permissions.
Note: You don't actually initiate a recovery, you just want to boot into it.
I'm having the same issue on my 2012 iMac. I hope this update corrects the issue.I've been having serious Bluetooth problems with my apple wireless keyboard and trackpad even since the last update. I hope this fixes that issue. It mentions a Bluetooth fix, but for USB adapters. I'm using the internal Bluetooth on my 2012 Mac mini.![]()
The last two mornings, I've had to do a hard reset on my 2010 iMac because after waking, all apps were unresponsive. I have three external HDD's connected to it.
Would this update potentially address my issue?
Yes. I have the same issue. Every time my 2010 iMac or 2009 MacBook Pro sleeps, I have to hard reset them to use them again. Not good for the drives at all.
Both my machines have secondary internal drives which are being ejected on sleep. I'm confident this update will fix that, and we'll have our Macs back.
As a temporary fix to your problem, set your Display sleep to 'Never'. It's not enough to set the hard drive sleep to never, for some reason. Then, manually sleep your iMac.
Yeah, Tiger on a 2012 Mac is really a disaster. ;-)10.4 has been a disaster update for my late 2012 iMac.

Everything seems to work OK, but why can't Apple fix something so elementary? Not![]()
It's neither. The report indicates that whatever list of file permissions is used thinks that a bunch of the files inside the iTunes app are supposed to be directories, but they aren't.Hmm.. I wonder if it's not actually fixing the permissions or if the booted OS is caching these invalid permissions still.
I would report this to Apple.
