OS X 10.9 to Include Siri and Maps Integration

Cellular Support in MacBooks Coming Then...?

While I need neither, I hope that these programs being part of OS X will mean that future Apple laptops will feature built-in cellular capabilities (as Siri requires Internet access and A-GPS is pretty slow without cellular triangulation). That would be awesome as 3G/LTE dongles are annoying and tethering eats the iPhone battery in no time.

This would be amazing on a 13"/15" rMBP with built-in GPS, LTE and SIM card slot. The ultimate on-the-road workstation!
 
I wish they would make some significant changes and not just here and there a little feature, as if I'm ever going to use Siri or Maps on my Mac. I am disappointed in Mountain Lion and I wish I wouldn't have bought it because my MBP is shutting down slower now.
 
This will probably be one of the better upgrades, along with iMessaging and Reminders.

I was going to upgrade my MacBook over the holidays, but with Haswell and DDR4 coming out very soon, I think I'll wait for Apple to get to use with this new technology.
 
Makes sense, they already have invested all this money into these features, may as well milk them for all they are worth by enabling them across all platforms.

I think we can also see where OSX 11 will take us...

Now, if only we can get siri on ipad2 and iphone4 as well. Specs notwithstanding, I find it criminal that Apple is deliberately withholding them on devices perfectly capable of supporting them. :mad:

Well $20 or whatever you're paying now for OS X is better then the $129 you paid in the Jobs days.


The more rapid development worries me for a different reason. in the past Apple was always about getting right meant more then a deadline. But now it seems the deadlines are getting in the way of getting the perfect product out.

Maybe not the right name, but I think that your idea is along the right path. I see some type of integration between the two under the same banner/name.

That is where my mind went as well. I still haven't gone to ML yet.
I figure they fixed all of the bugs and there were so many that they opted to rename the OS and then sell it back to us. :D
 
why do we need maps on a laptop, or desktop computer for that matter? Has apple finally lost the ability to "innovate"? Siri does sound promising though.

Yeah I knew he was joking, my post wasn't supposed to sound like I was debating him though I can now see how it comes off that way.
 
OK...so it's almost pretty clear that by OS X 11 we will see a unified OS on all Apple hardware (Mac, iPhones, iPads, etc).

This...could...get...messy.
 
well i will be handsfree when i ask siri search youporn...... :)))apple will be present in the future that for sure...
and i just hope they will not forget the mac...........

Gee, great... Another half-baked OS to be released just one year after the previous half-baked OS. :rolleyes:
 
Who else is absolutely bored with OS X? The move to more of an iOS-like experience doesn't excite me in any way either. I'm not saying OS X doesn't work for me for what it can do; I'm just saying that it's no longer exciting, even to upgrade.
 
"next generation"? Lol. "Next Update" is more the right term.

I was hoping mountain lion was the final version of OSX. I have been waiting for OS11 since 2010!

Are people actually excited about another update on this? Do we, the users, need it?
 
I would imagine that Siri will only be available on new (at the time of 10.9's release) Macs or models released in 2012. Everyone else will need to upgrade hardware. Which is fine with me, because I'm pretty sure that Mountain Lion is the last version of OS X that my 2008 MacBook will be supported on.

And that's the whole point. Apple to me is moving to a finderless experience. The finder was always boring. it's the apps, the content you care about that is interesting. And having less stuff in the rode and stuff you have to do before you can enjoy your favourite content I believe is Apple's plan.
