Having same problem. Can't startup even with left shift key held down after chime. I have filevault enabled.

Panic seems to involve extensions virtualbox.

How to boot with extensions off or single user mode with file vault enabled?

I tried command s after startup chime and after trying to log in

I've created a USB install disk for El Cap, and I'm re-installing it on the MBP (couldn't even boot into recovery mode). Hopefully when I wake up in the morning it will be fine (its 3am here). Another 18 minutes till its installed.

Something got caught up in the install. I booted into recovery. disabled firmware password. rebooted trying safe mode and single user mode.

installation somehow didn't finish. progress bar and then booted into DP6 safe mode. removed virtual box vbox extensions from /library/extensions. rebooted and all is fine.

far far ok. but that was a bit unnecessary.

Well for me, trying to re-install lead to a ""A mismatch between the mbr and gpt partition maps is not supported." error, which I fixed thanks to this thread on the dev forum https://forums.developer.apple.com/message/36012

Basically you need to use gdisk to repair the MBR. After that I have begun again the install, which this time seems to be working.

    --- EDIT

Well that worked, I am now up and running with Beta 6. What I don't understand is why I didn't have a problem with Betas 1-5. Did Win 10 updating itself to final release somehow mess up the bootrecords?

Same issue here. Updated to DP6, stuck at around 75%. Reinstalled using recovery back to DP1, then updated to DP2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, and it is stuck again. -.-

I tried to fix permissions/volume through Recovery partition, but nothing helped. Any info on what it might be, or how to try to fix it?

CMD+S is not working, text is getting stuck after "System boot time (in nanoseconds): 12309213..." or something like that...

Install it via the Installer, rather than through the App Store.

Download the installer from the app store (if you have another Mac available) and generate a USB installer. When I regenerated it last night it created a DP6 version.

Ok, this is incredible. Las night I wiped my entire internal SSD, installed Mavericks, updated to Public Beta of El Cap, everything worked out fine (I decided to try out public beta instead of dev version). This morning OS seems laggy a bit, I reboot and do PRAM reset and now I'm stuck again at the loading screen.
I'm going back to Yosemite :(
