Sorry, but most folks who use a Mac at work most certainly use Outlook as well. The fact that El Capitan breaks Outlook is a deal-breaker for me and just shows how bad Apple's QA is. Outlook is one of the most important business apps and Apple releases an incompatible OS upgrade? Really? How can that happen? (That was rhetorical - Apple breaks compatibility with every new OS X upgrade; by now everybody knows that they don't give a damn.)

Office users will have to postpone the El Capitan upgrade until either Microsoft or Apple provide a fix for that problem.

That was my worry. I’ve installed Office 2016. I’ll see how that fares.

Looks like I have to pass on El Capitan as Office 2011 is a must for my work. UGH!!!

It really isn't Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibility with every 3rd party product out there, expecting that is just crazy in my opinion.

I work with a game publisher who use safedisc DRM on their boxed products which no longer work at all in Windows 10 due to changes Microsoft have made - every single disc they've sold in the past 10 years is now rendered unusable by anyone using the latest version of Windows :(

El Cap works more than fine on MBP13 Mid2010 Core2Duo. But 4GB Ram are strongestnessly recommended. My one year newer Mini with 2GB is choking. But it is still better that anything from Lion till Yosemite. Any other system than Snow Leopard or El Cap I can not recommend for those kind of devices.

Really? Surprised to hear that. Okay. Was planning on upgrading the RAM to 8GB anyway. Thank you!

I'm on a mid 2010 Mac mini 4gb ram running yosemite and it's awful. Like, really almost unusable, it takes forever to start. It takes about 3 minutes for safari to open. Even longer for iTunes.

. I haven't been following news on El capitan but does anyone know if it will be better than yosemite?

I've seen loads of posts online with people having the same problem as me.

My mid 2011 27" was equally unusable, I had to downgrade to use it properly. I was told, unofficially, that Apple recommended using 8GB of memory. To future proof my setup for a while, (I hope), I topped up to 16 GB. Once Yosemite was reinstalled, it now runs smoothly and swiftly. Just a thought!

Macworld may call El Capitan 'Solid as a rock', though I have had a number of DSP developer's contact me recently to tell me that their products are not yet El Capital compatible. AVID have stated that pro tools is not el capitan compatible, and Arturia, and Native instruments have both sent me emails informing me that some of their programs have compatibility issues. I'm not updating until I'm certain that at least these three issues have been resolved.

Personally I have a lot of plugins which all need to work, I'm not jumping into a new boat until I know for certain all the holes have been filled. Especially after the yosemite experience.

It's okay you can still use Logic to make some EDM and some Dubstep! Urk...

First of all, never update more than twice above your base OS.
Second it's not normal that you have to have 16GB for an OS.
Third, at least you can change the ram, newer Mac can't.

It should be here soon but god do I hate the buggy App Store.

…and the App itself still says version 8.0.8

"sites agree that while OS X 10.11 isn't a massive overhaul, its performance enhancements and speed boosts make upgrading to the free new OS essentially a no-brainer."

That's what I want. Solid. Simple. Nothing Fancy. Not breaking my existing apps and work flow.

"rootless" has the potential to break quite a lot of existing "close to the system" applications. In fact, most music application/instrument/hardware companies have issued warnings not to update just yet. Just like Native Instruments, Cubase and many others (in fact, just Sonos seems to be prepared, providing new drivers for their devices - horayyy!)

Possibly a corrupted download. Happens with me all the time. Now each time you download, it won't work and then keep showing up as an available update.

Only solution that worked for me was to download the update manually from the Apple's website.

If you have not noticed, the pinned tabs are actually shared between all open Safari windows. There is one process per pinned tab, regardless of how many windows are open.

I am on the GM and have issues with mail not responding and crashing. As I need mail I am not so happy. Besides that I am happy.

I found " upgrading" OS X it really messes with email server settings and Network Settings!!! So I suggest is use System Preferences pane to setup you email, server settings and make sure they are all correct (plus check with your server settings online)! I bet something in the "upgrade and "automatic" settings could have messed those email server settings!

I getting the dislike Mail's Automatic email settings really simplistic and it likes to mess with upgraded settings almost every OS X " upgrade"!!!

It was the manufacturer who contacted me and advised I should wait for the firmware fix before upgrading.

If you can do a fresh install on an external then you could see the errors the device driver throws up (in Console) then you could let the manufacture know! This way you could test and help the manufacture!

When I helped an overseas device maker of a PCI card back in the Yosemite days. I worked with their techs (over email, phone calls) during their writing. I then was given their beta drivers and report back the problems I saw. After all that they gave me a free application they also used for free helping them in trouble shooting.

Anyone on GM getting this when trying to download the released version? There is nothing in the Updates, so I wonder if there are any changes from the GM to the final.

can anyone comment how this would run on a mid 2010 macbook pro? im still on mavericks lol

They obviously haven't tried running FCPX on it then :(

Hoping for an update asap!

I am downloading EL CAPITAN right now. I noticed you say there are issues with FCPX - I was wondering if you know if Motion still works. Do you know? Thanks for your post sir/mam.

How does the system pref > power settings work in EL CAPITAN? Does it still disregard and not remember changes? I set my computer to sleep after an hour of inactivity and it goes back to default. Its if it doesn't remember my changes. This has occurred since mavericks. Is it still the same with EL CAPITAN? Thanks for any answers!

Reviews seem consistently positive in terms of OSX running better, but the issue of program compatibility is neglected. Parallels, for instance, is extorting users into another upgrade (I've already upgraded two systems earlier this year, and now have to do it again). Nobody is mentioning Bootcamp (which was never properly supported anyway) and compatibility with Windows 7, which some of us still rely on. Just saying that early adopters need, as always, to beware, especially if they have any legacy products at all.
