What sort of iBook? What sort of OSX? Is it a disk that came with the iBook, one that you bought separately from Apple, or (God forbid) a pirated version? Is the disk scratched? Can other Macs read it? When you say it's not reading, is it being spat back out, is it showing an error message or is it just spinning and not reacting to anything?

How badly scratched? This isn't sounding promising?

Could you try viewing the disk on a different computer (Mac or PC). You may be able to install from a network.
