I had mavericks. Downloaded Yosemite. Made a bootable usb. Did a clean install.
Lost my Yosemite app (5.16 gb).
Still have the bootable usb ( Yosemite installer).
Can i get the OS X .APP from the usb for future requirement

    Thanks

Unless you saved the Yosemite installer app that downloaded to your Applications folder to a different folder on the HD or external drive etc., it is gone. You would have to download the installer app again, if you want to save it for future use.

    Boot up yosemite.

Just put your bootable usb into your computer but don't boot from it.

Open the drive called "Install OS X Yosemite"

All you should see inside is "Install OS X Yosemite"

    That IS the installer app.

You may copy it out without having to redownload it.

Yes, I just figured it out.
I plugged my yosemite usb and checked its contents.
all i see was one application which was ..guess what...yosemite installer application (5.17 gb) .

I copied it . Maybe i will try to make another bootable usb with it to see its the same unmodified app which i had downloaded form the app store.

I had contacted apple on their online chat service , but all they said was that i have to re download the 5 gb app ( which took me 2 days ) and there is no other way i can get it.

I will let know if that app works out by trying to make another bootable usb with it.

    Thank you

    good day

If you told the chat service you made the bootable usb, then they were wrong.

With such a bootable usb, there is no need to redownload it. That is one of the reasons for making the bootable usb in the first place.

Other means are available for reinstallation, such as internet recovery or recovery partition, but both require a redownload of the whole system. Such a redownload is not necessary if you have the bootable usb.
