    Hi all,

Just upgraded to OS X Mavericks the other day. While I'm on my browser (firefox), my MacBookPro 15 inch keeps freezing up for a second and then restarts itself, showing a screen that says, "your computer was restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up."

I've lost a few documents on Word, as well as online.

    Why does it do this?

If it helps, I have the crash report and can paste it into this post.

I'm getting the same thing...seems to happen only when I'm actually typing on the keyboard. The word I'm typing stops and causes me to look up and then I know, restart is coming.

I upgraded last Thursday, 10/24 and the computer has crashed for me without fail about 10 minutes into usage on Chrome Browser and Safari. I switched to Safari thinking it was Chrome causing the issue.

Someone has recommended removing GLIMS if you have it installed, I do and I plan to remove it today and see if that helps.

    FYI...I'm on a 2009 i5 iMac 27"

    ----------

Another piece of input.. I called Apple support and told them Mavericks has broken my machine. I have zero trust that doing work on the machine will be saved properly as the crashes happen at random and I don't feel like clicking save everytime I finish a sentence. Luckily I have a rMBP 15" that is on Mavericks and has had zero issues, so I can still use something. My iMac is not to be trusted at the moment.

According to the "genius" I would have to pay $19.99 to open a support ticket as my iMac is out of warranty. Sure, Apple, give me a free upgrade that breaks my 2009 machine then try and charge me just to troubleshoot. I'm sure all they'd offer is to back my files up and try a clean install! BOOOOO

Same problem here. It seems to relate to typing anything fast. I'll post if I find out any fixes.

Possible fix here...at least I couldn't replicate the crash/reboot issue today.

First thing this morning, I went to my iMac and awoke it from sleep mode. Woah! Brightness turned up from the previous day, so I tap tap tapped down the brightness and sure enough, the darn keyboard bug struck again. Computer rebooted itself, so I just left it...but I did unplug the keyboard from the USB port. I'm still using an Apple USB keyboard which has the number keys on the right of the standard keyboard.

Well, since simply unplugging and plugging the usb keyboard back in the iMac I have not been able to get the thing to do the crash/reboot bug.

So, I'll report back if the crash happens again, but it seems the keyboard just needed to be reloaded for Mavericks. I'm crossing my fingers on this being the case!

Are you all using USB input devices? It sounds like Mavericks is having issues with a range of USB devices, though the main ones I've heard about so far are USB connected displays rather than something basic like input devices, but it could be that USB in general is a bit screwed up in this initial release?

I've got a 2TB backup drive hooked up on FireWire, USB Apple Keyboard, A USB for my iPhone and USB for my Nexus 7 and that is it...my mouse is hooked up with bluetooth.

The Keyboard hasn't caused a crash since I unplugged and reset it...like I said, still crossing my fingers!

Got exactly the same issue, random restarts after upgrading to 10.9. I have attached the crash log and would appreciate any help, lost any trust in my MacBook as it can restart at any time!

    Have any console logs?

Also - while you might not be using any *external* USB devices, USB is still how many peripherals are connected within your laptop.

Yikes - lots of spewage for KiesAgent, which is Samsung software with a bad reputation:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4915906

You might look to get rid of that and see how you do.

Is op aware that "com.spsys.driver.ENKEDriver" suggests he has a key logger installed, specifically this one:

    http://www.spectorsoft.com/products/eblaster_mac/

From what I can tell, that is not a stable product at all. The way it hooks into IOKit (and the fact that the panic is coming from IOKit) makes me think that it is the reason why his machine is crashing.

Completely removed Kies with the uninstaller, still getting the restarting problem unfortunately :(

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but our problems are very similar, so hopefully there's a similar solution.

I've been having the same issue, now on my 3rd random reboot. Happened only while I was away from my laptop (MacBook Pro early 2009). I only have a WD 1TB HDD attached to it.

Hope a fix will come out soon.

    a clue!

I am having this same problem and use eblaster also, so I'm going to uninstall it and see if that fixes the problem.

    Me too!

I am also having the same problem on my 2012 iMac 27" ...it seems like it really started 2 days after the maverick install. I had installed an update of the maverick and that is when all hell broke loose. This is my work computer and it happens at random times too. It also happens when I am typing.
I just unplugged my keyboard and plugged it back in. I also made an appt with the mac counter for tomorrow. So nice to drag this 27" beast in to a mall. Ugh! I will let you know what they say!

    ----------

Here is my crash report. I have too many to save them all though. Ugh!

That is not true. Not saying you weren't told that, but whoever told you that was wrong. Everyone gets an automatic 90 day software exception when they install Mavericks whether their computer is out of warranty or not. That is the case whenever you purchase and install any version of Mac OS.

Just wanted to chime in that I'm getting this as well on my 2009 Mac Pro.

I've had it happen 3 times so far, the latest was a few minutes ago. I was using InDesign, doing a job collection and it was on the part that copies files, all of which were on a network volume. It happened in the middle of that.

Hadn't ever had this issue prior to Mavericks.

    had to take it in

Hey gang. Wanted to let you know I had to take my 27" baby into the store. I don't think people with their ipads and laptops were used to seeing this walk through the door. They tested it and after about 4 days they said they couldn't find anything...then wanted to wipe it out. I said okay. Then I got a call a couple of days later telling me they wanted to wipe it out. Uh, yes I had told you. This was my work computer. So it was out of my office for over a week. So be ready with a backup if this is your only computer. On the upside...having it wiped out and maverick installed there is like having a new computer. Also, I reinstalled all of my programs from disk/web level and not from a backup. I didn't want whatever that was reinfecting my computer. I have not had any problems since.

    ----------

Don't forget...like I did. Make a copy of your errors and logs and print them out BEFORE you go into the store. I left mine in my car and wasn't about to go back to get them after lugging a 27" into the mall. I am sure they would have helped a lot had I had them and they said they couldn't find the problem. Maybe they wouldn't have had to wipe it possibly???

    anyone seeing screen artifacts too?

My mid-2010 iMac just started the random rebooting yesterday. I had upgraded to Mavericks the day it came out.

The weird thing is that I started seeing screen artifacts, basically asterixes that look like an 8-bit snow program, on my screen in random patterns. They come and go, and mostly just an annoyance.

But now the reboots, and I'm getting nervous.

    Anyone have any ideas?
