what would be the best way to get rid of os 9 that was loaded into my new powerbook? i'm a switcher, so i don't know the ins and outs of os x yet. should i just drag the os 9 classic folder into the trash or is that a bad idea? or should i just do a full reinstall of os x and not install classic?

you can just erase an install osx if you want but why not leave 9 on for a few weeks and atleast try it out. I mean unless your short on space i would leave it for a little while

if you're a switcher, and you might have to use apps that require OS 9, it's a good idea to keep it on the computer.
Of course, with Quark now OS X native, and with the exception of shoddy scanner support in X, I really don't see any excuse to use 9 :)

in any case, just do a full reinstall of X.

clean install

I would personaly do a clean install. But you can just drag that stuff to the trash can. OS9 apps, and OS9 system folder. Only problem is that if you do that and you open a classic app some time, it will complain that it cand find the OS9 system that it used to point to.... but no big deal.

I do believe one needs to be in root account to really be able to delete everything. But since ddohnggo is a self-admitted n00b, I wouldn't recommend him activating and screwing around in root for a while yet.

ddohnggo, I recommend you keep Classic as long as you can, only killing it when you feel you are running out of disk space, and even then, Classic is pretty small, less than 200mb.

Please ask yourself if it's really worth the trouble.

i did a clean install to get rid of OS 9 solely for organizational purposes. i never use it, and it just bothers me having folders in my hard drive that just don't get used. and seeing how my hard drive is the first thing to open a finder window of when navigating around, it bothered the crap out of me.

I agree completely. I ditched OS 9 when I did a clean install of Jaguar when it was released last year. I haven't needed it at all since, almost 10 months later now.

Well, I did a full re-install but I also created a seperate 4Gb partition and put OS9 on it. I do occasionally boot into OS9 (for some reason Premiere has capture problems in OSX that it doesn't have in OS9).

i thought that capture problem was fixed in a downloadable update?

I agree. I've only used Classic once or twice, and haven't booted into 9 since I ditched Virtual PC, but I'm still keeping it around just in case I need it for something. It's comparatively very small, so hang onto it until you're certain you won't need it.
