OS X Stalls??

Hi, I have OS X.3.9 with dual 867 gig proccessor and 1 gig of ram. When I copy let's say a paragraph from my email and I want to paste it in a new email, the color wheel comes up and just spins and that's not just copying and pasting, I could be doing anything and it will just slow up for a few seconds. Does anyone know how to fix this, or at least know what causes this? Thanks

How many programs were you running when you did that?

Have you tried restarting?
