i own a macbook pro late 2011 no retina but the ui is just to big i already made the dock smaller but the finder is to small any way to make this smaller? i tried the terminal trick but no help

System Preferences->Displays


Or if you don't want to change screen reso.. you could always look into System Preferences->Accessibility under Zoom.

I dont have those scale options since i dont own a retina mac and zoom would not help since i want smaller not bigger

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible with software available out there. Although you could theoretically do the same trick as Retina MacBooks, it would look horrible because of the interpolation and lack of pixel density.

You'll have to resort to hidden toolbars and smaller text sizes.
