Great, I know a lot of people have been anxious for this

Says in the main body of the report here (from The Loop) that it will be the same build initially but that it won't include all future updates that devs and AppleSeed testers get.

For the beta nubies: if you plan on d/ling tomorrow do not install over the OS of your current stable OS. Either install on a separate drive or partition. I know this sounds obvious but people install betas all the time over stable versions and live to regret it. Also be aware you cannot roll back to 10.9.x once you install 10.10 so if you do install it over 10.9 there is no easy way to go back which is why you should install on a separate drive or partition.

10.10 DP4 is stable for a beta. It's still a beta though.

If it was stable and without bugs it would have been released already. BETA means BETA, not that hard really.

There is no harm in installing a beta software as your main OS provided your computer isn't your source of income (meaning you can't afford for apps and features to not work) and you have a way of rolling back (performing a Time Machine back up before 'upgrading' to the beta). People don't need to be so doom and gloom about a beta OS. I'm sure the public beta is stable enough for it to be used as a main OS.

I think Beta 3 was ready for public beta release. It was stable, IMO. I love Beta 4 so far. Yosemite betas have been more stable than iOS's. You would think it'd be the opposite, since iOS 8 just builds on iOS 7.

I figured that it was so buggy because it was reprogrammed in Swift

Yeah, it'll probably be 6PM BST, like the time for normal releases.

10AM PST is usually the time for keynotes and releases which is always 6PM GMT. BST is an hour ahead of GMT right now, making it 7PM here in the UK. I'd be surprised if it drops at that time, but I guess we'll find out.

Will it be safe to use in your main pc? Isn't it gonna be too buggy and cause problems?

I won't install this beta on my Air, because I work with it and I want my OS to be really stable and reliable. I don't think it'll be too buggy though.
I suppose this BETA will be quite stable, but I guess I can wait a couple of months to play with Yosemite ;)

Love the features, but with iOS 7 I still don't like the look. The "new" font on non-retina screens looks pretty bad IMO - very jaggy at times. I thought maybe it was because it was still early beta, but b4 there still has not been any improvement.

I notice it most in the menu bar - for example the typeface used to display the current user logged in looks awful on my 21.5" iMac and my 27" screen hooked up to my MacPro.

The W in Wed for the date looks fine. But the W in my last name, which I think is in bold, looks awful.

wow.. that was fast...

It was like only yesterday i said this...

(hey.. it was yesterday..)

I have to wonder.. what's the point of a public beta if the public testers aren't always going to be on the latest build?

I signed up for the beta. I'm really looking forward to it, even with the probable bugs. It'll give me a head start on getting used to the new features and design.

There are still some issues with iCloud that need to get resolved

When haven't there been issues with iCloud?

Now begins the anxious wait to see if I'm one of the first million ;) No notification or invite from Apple yet..

I did it within the first hour. Considering how many million Mac users there are minus the users that can actually run this software minus those who actually can and want to run this software, I feel there are about 2-3 million possible candidates max.

This times a million. Upvote the hell outta this.

It is tempting but I think I will wait until the official release of both Yosemite and iOS 8. You guys and gals can work out the bugs for me! ;)

The "latest build" for devs are sometimes "roll backs" to see if changes really made a difference or not, just because its version up from the last beta, doesn't automatically make it better than the last release. Future DP updates could break a few things for a relatively stable beta, but sometimes breaking things is good to help makes things better, a task reserved for the devs, and not the public beta testers.

Just a heads up, if you're on a Mac with an Intel HD3000 integrated graphics processor then do NOT install the beta if it's the same build as DP4. It has some major redraw issues, at least on my machine.

Get ready for the even bigger flood of "How do I go back to Mavericks" and "Handoff not working" I do think its stable enough for Beta but the fact is people don't understand what Beta means and think it just means early access to a finished product.

I signed up. I have never installed beta OSX before.

How stable these betas are generally speaking? Of course you can never know exactly but should I expect a lot of crashes etc? Should I expect that some apps might not run properly?

When final version is released will there be a lot of hassle with updating if I have installed beta before that? Can I just install final version over beta like any other OSX update?

I used OS X 10.9.3 public beta when it was released..

I did run it native which is usually a bad idea, because crashes, app etc can result. You typically download an app and install it, which allows software update to also download betas.. this will allow download of the beta 10.10

u can easily uninstall the app. but any beta's u already have installed as a result will stay installed (e.g safari betas as well ). This is why u shouldn't use it on main system.

If possible, run it on another machine, not a production machine you use every day, since with beta u dunno whats going to happen..

I think you can't upgrade to full release, the whole idea is to test it, so makes sure u have a tie machine backup, since you'll need it when the times comes to install OS X 10.10 when its available.

Depends on what you do, "stable" as a daily driver with a few "annoyances" if all you do is basic stuff like web browsing, emails, etc...

If you use a lot of third party apps for some heavy working stuff etc, you'll notice more bugs since the apps are not updated just yet. Like any beta software, there are bugs. Its about whether or not you can deal with them.

Typically, its never good practice to use a beta as a main, daily driver os.
