Please excuse me if this is not in the correct place.

I have a Macbook with OSX 10.6.8 and iPhone 3Gs (5.x). Tethering used to work on both USB and Bluetooth. Just last week for some unknown reason, USB tethering stopped working on my Macbook but STILL works on a Windows XP machine. Bluetooth still works but sometimes I prefer USB tethering.

It can still charge and sync data with iTunes through USB.

I used to see iPhone listed under my network preferences when I connect through USB but that is not on the list either.

Anyone know what went wrong or have any possible solutions for me?

I'm on Bell Mobility Canada (allows tethering).

    Thanks.

I am running OSX 10.7.3 and have the exact same issue.

USB tethering does not work anymore with my iPhone 4S.

I am completely updated on my phone and MBP and have verified tethering does work via bluetooth and Wifi.

The only recent change I have made to my devices are the usual system updates and I recently installed some Wacom tablet software on my MBP.

By any chance did you recently install Wacom drivers?

No... I don't have Wacom , like you I only did regular system updates. I ruled out my USB cable because I tried a few and still no go.

I can't get it to tether via usb on my 17inch MacBook Pro early 2011 either. Works fine via WI-FI and Bluetooth bu not USB on my 4S. Deleted iTunes and reinstalled it but no luck. Will tether via USB on MacBook Air.

So nobody else ran into this besides us unlucky ones? I'm usually good at figuring things out but this has me stumped!

Well AppleCare is completely useless..I'm being sent round in circles at the moment. Go through to Mac Support "My iPhone won't tether via USB to my MacBook Pro but will to other Macs". "Wait did you say iPhone. Transferring!"

And Vice Versa getting transfered back to Mac support now. The next guy who picks me up is not going to have a nice time...

Oh. I wonder if it had anything to do with recent iTunes update. I'll see if I can downgrade iTunes to previous versions.

Sorry, I set a chance last night.. will try tonight or when I get a chance.

    Edit:
I lazy out... I tried using time machine to go back to old version of iTunes and no diff.. I'll have to find time to restore the laptop and start with earlier versions of iTunes...

Maybe you can try restore without updating tunes and see if it works..

Hi, I think I may have found the issue. I've booted up my previous Super Duper backup of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with iTunes 9.1.1 and the USB tethering works!

This makes me think the latest iTunes 10.6.1 broke USB tethering (Mac) on my 3GS anyways.

Hate doing this but looks like I'm gonna reinstall everything with iTunes upto 10.6 or less. :(
