Since upgrading to Yosemite, OSX will not write to the XD card on my Olympus DS-4000 voice recorder. Hence, it will not delete files when they are copied to the DSS Player software running under OSX. And when the voice recorder is connected to the usb connection a warning displays, "OS X can't repair the disk "Untitled"".

OSX can format the card in Disk Utility, but to be usable, the card has to be formatted by the Voice Recorder.

In "Info" under "Sharing & Permissions" it is set to "You can only read", with no ability to change the setting.

I am thinking this must be some setting or feature of OSX that leads to this anomaly. Any suggestions?

    Questions:

When you go to "read" the card on the Mac, do you take it out of the DS-4000?
Or, are you attempting to access the card while it is "still inside"?

Suggestion (may help, or maybe not):

If the card is easily removable, I would remove it and access it via a USB card reader on the Mac.

    Also....
    You could try this:
    - Put card into card reader, connect to the Mac
    - Let icon for card mount on the desktop
    - Click ONE TIME on the card icon to select it
    - Next, type "command-i" to bring up the "get info" box in the finder
    - In the bottom right-hand corner of the get info box, there is a lock. Click on it, and then enter your administrative password
    - In the bottom left-hand corner, there should be a checkbox to "ignore ownership on this volume".
    - Put a check into the "ignore ownership" box, then close the get info box.

Now try deleting files on the card.
    Does this change anything?

    Thank you for your reply.

The xD card remains in the voice recorder. The intended functionality is that when the voice recorder is plugged into the usb dock, DSS player automatically opens and copies the most recent recordings onto the Mac and then deletes them from the voice recorder. Now, under Yosemite, the error message comes up when the voice recorder is connected, and it will not delete the files.

I will get an old xD card reader and try your suggestion and post the result.

I just noticed in the Info box that the card on the voice recorder is formatted as MS-DOS FAT12. The voice recorder will automatically re-format when I format the card using Disk Utility. Is it possible that Yosemite has lost the ability to write to disks formatted in this way? Is there a way of restoring this ability?
